“Very nice tapas bar and restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

We didn't try the restaurant but went twice to the tapas bar. It serves food from the Basque country (the tapas are called pintxos), The place is decorated with taste amd has a warm and classy atmosphere. The tapas are very good and the wine (Malbec) was excellent. From our (limited) experience, probably one of the best places in San Telmo in terms of quality. Quite a number of Argentinanins were there everytime which is a good sign.

“Loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

My wife and i enjoyed this place a lot. I've never seen the concept before but essentially they serve small plates (tapas) basque style, which means the plates are set on it's counters (over 30 plates, with food) and you just go around and pick what you want. All the food has toothpicks. You save those on your plate and you will be charged at the end based on the number of toothpicks you have. It was easy, casual yet great ambiance and pretty good. It seemed like they had a full sit down restaurant as well in the back. The only negative was the fact you need to jump over ppl sitting at the counters to grab the food and the service wasn't the fastest. Also, although well priced by the bite, it adds up quickly.

“good tapas, terrible service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

i have been many times and always have good food. we went in the afternoon on a sunday, which is market day in san telmo. the person serving us was miserable. perhaps over worked or having a bad day. we were with friends from buenos aires. it was their first time at sagardi. they really like the food but were embarrassed by the service. they could not believe someone employed in the service industry could be so miserable. the other wait staff seemed to have attitude as well. i only mention incase you go in on a sunday expecting a friendly smile, cold beer and tapas from happy staff. i have not been back since which is a shame as we are renting a place just up the street. there are far to many places dying for business in this economy in buenos aires.
tip. if you are planning a trip, exchange US cash on the street at 10 pesos to 1. the government, bank machines, banks and credit cards are at 6.5 to 1.
they are on floridly street although stay in public areas. there is a safe one near alto palermo mall.

“Very tasty!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

Tired and starving, we wondered into Sagardi and decided to stay. It was great to be able to start eating the cold pintxos (tapas) immediately - you just grab a plate and serve yourself! From time to time they brought some warm pintxos from the kitchen, but not quite as often as we were hoping.

All the pintxos had a base of bread with different toppings. There were at least 15 different choices. My favourite was one with a slice of pumpkin and smoked salmon on top, while my boyfriend went crazy for ones with onion, red pepper, aubergine and anchovy.

We were very happy with the place and the service was pretty good too, even though they were reluctant to serve us tap water. We sat at the bar, which was nice for easy access to the food, but it meant that from time to time we had to move out of the way when others came to have a look at the food. We had 15 pintxos in total between the two of us and each one was 140 pesos (£1.40), if I remember correctly (in the end they count the cocktail stick to see how many you've eaten).

“Nice place, great tapas, good wines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Because the restaurant was completely empty, we decided to stay in the spacious and very nice bar to eat tapas. Beautiful place, good choice of very nice, fresh tapas. You can pick and choose from the bar, and every 10 minutes or so they also bring fresh warm tapas, all good quality. Before paying they count the sticks, all tapas have the same price.

During our visit, the family of the guy running the place was present, no problem ofcourse, the only thing bothering us, and other customers, was that the guy kept coming over to kiss his wife in the neck, very nice to see people in love, but not very appropriate for someone running a restaurant.
