“Lovely small hotel in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2011

We spent only one night at Kala Petit and found it very pleasant. The room was nice and clean. Sharing a bathroom was not a problem, there are rooms with private bathrooms as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel has a small backyard with swimming pool that provides a great resting place from the bustle of the city. The location in Palermo is great for dining and nightlife, and the hotel is not far from Aeropuerto Jorge Newbery. The staff were also able to arrange a transport for us to Ezeiza airport. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Kala several nights during our trip around Argentina in early December. As we stopped in Buenos Aires to combine our flights from north to Patagonia, and we have separated stays, we have got the chance to stay in different rooms of the Hotel.
The house is cozy and it has an amazing charm. The best of it is the garden and their pool, which lets you chill out a little bit after a hot day walking around the city. Location is also excellent! You are in the center of Palermo, close to almost everything I need in holidays: Bars, Good Restaurants and Shoppping.
The staff is very friendly, and even though all of them don´t speak a perfect english, they always have the best attitude to help us organizing everything we wanted to do.
In our first stay we slept in the Garden room, which looks brand new, and it also gave us the privacy of being separated of the main house. After that we couldn´t book the same room, but we stayed in Green Room. It is kind of dark with old furniture, but its window also faces the garden, so it was very quiet to sleep. The shared bathroom was clean and tidy, at least every time we used it.
Breakfast is standard, but you have pretty much everything you need for a good start! Some good fruit, OJ, Cereals, a sandwich and a hot cup of coffee.
I would definetely recommend everyone to stay here, if you like your independence while you are traveling, and enjoy personal attention.

I really don´t understand the bad things people say about this place. I suppose if you just want to shutter yourself in your room and have every comfort, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to meet people and have a lot of fun, then this is really a fantastic find. I stayed here for a week in December and had the time of my life. Everyone who stayed here was so friendly as was the staff. Yes, knowing a bit of Spanish is helpful, but you are traveling in Argentina, so if the lack of English is a problem, you might want to rethink your travel goals. As a solo traveler, I loved how social everyone was at this hotel. On new year´s eve, I even got a dinner invitation with a group of folks around my age who were staying there as well. It is a little far from the standard tourist things, so expect to have to walk to the subte or cab it places, but I didn´t mind. Palermo Soho is a great location. Lots of shops, plenty of restaurants and very young. Bottom line, I could have stayed here an extra week. It really felt like home.

The best thing about Kala Petit is its close proximity to dozens of bars, great restaurants, and shops in Palermo Soho. Plaza Serrano is an easy five minute walk. The accommodations are decent for the price but nothing special. My room was adequate and the wireless internet had a reliable signal. The pool is not large enough to actually swim in and the garden was laughable. Still, the complimentary breakfasts were satisfying and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Average property surrounded by graffiti-covered shuttered business. Once inside, the lady working there was very friendly but spoke only spanish. Be prepared for loud traffic (and loud birds in the spring) just outside your window, starting around 4:45am. However, none of this compared with the nightmare of trying to resolve the billing. We booked our stay through bedandbreakfast.com and were charged for the full stay. Upon our checkout, the staff at Kala Petit insisted that we owed them directly. Assuming there was an honest misunderstanding, we foolishly paid them. Two months later we are still trying to get a refund from either of the two parties but to date have been unsuccessful. More to follow.

We stayed for 5 nights in the Green room. Their best asset is the location, close to the hip Palermo area. La Cabrera, a steakhouse just a couple of blocks down the road, is definitely worth a visit. Although not so distinct from outside, the interior is quite homey and cozy. The ground floor is the communal living room, kitchen and dining area so it feels like you are at a home instead of a hotel. Upstairs are 4 rooms and a communal bathroom. The communal bathroom was not a problem at all. The floor does get wet easily, but it is cleaned often during the day.

Here are some disappointments.

1. Green Room was charmingly decorated with wooden furniture and came with a TV, but it was quite small and dark. It was darker and tighter than how the image looks on their website. The windows are small and did not bring much air in and we found the room quite stuffy in March. There is a ceiling fan which helped.

2. When we were booking the hotel, we corresponded with the owner Valerie who was responsive, friendly and spoke English. We were under the impression that their small hotel was run by the family. However throughout our stay we only met Louisa, a nice lady who did everything around the hotel - she checked us in, cleaned the bathroom, changed the sheets, and prepared breakfast. But as sweet as she is, Louisa speaks hardly any English and we barely got by with my husband's little understanding of Spanish. As first time visitors to the city, it was frustrating to have the only staff at the hotel not able to communicate with us, let alone provide us with some guidance to the city. Other guests had the same problem and they had to turn to my husband for help.

3. The free WIFI works in the living room but does not quite reach the upstairs rooms.

4. The breakfast is nice but very basic - same toast with ham and cheese every morning except for the last day when we were so excited to see some mini croissants, which also coincided with the arrival of the ensuite room guests.

Overall, it was not a bad stay, but probably best not to have too much expectations.
