My wife and I stayed for a week at this marvelous place, which we chose because of the glowing reviews on Tripadvisor, and it lived up to all the advance notice.
James spared no expense in creating a beautiful boutique hotel. the attention to detail in the architecture (beveled glass in every window, extravagant hardware, tile, polished wood floors, lovely eating space and patio with elaborate breakfast choices and dinner served Thursday through Saturday, and really comfortable beds). Room 6, Loft 2, in the back, was dead quiet for a great night sleep.
Perhaps more importantly, James and his staff really helped make the stay even more enjoyable with their hospitality and recommendations. Be sure to catch a dinner one half block away at La Lechuza, a family run hole in the wall with a fine gritty atmosphere and the most amazing roast chicken and potatoes dishes. The Palermo Soho neighborhood has wonderful shopping at fine boutiques, but be sure to visit the Plaza Cortazar (Serrano) Market on the weekends. It's a fun Palermo mini version of the famous San Telmo Sunday Flea Market (which is not to be missed). Other restaurants within walking distance from the hotel and well worth the walk include, Sa Giara for great Sardinia food, Juan Julio Parrilla for excellent meat dishes, Xalapa has fine Mexican food.
As you walk the streets keep a vigilant eye out for the ever present dog poop. BA should follow New York in addressing this issue. Other sights we enjoyed include Historic Cafe Tortoni near Plaza de Mayo, the elaborate palace Museo Del Arte Decorative currently with an extensive Rodin exhibit, The interesting Evita Museum, and the Recoleta Cemetary, an unbelievable collection of grand architectural styles and stray cats.
Go to the Carlos Gardel tango show. For 600 pesos (tip 60 pesos) you great a fine meal in a beatutiful dinner theater and a really entertaining show.
We had to cut our vacation short to escape Hurricane Ike, our flight to Houston was uneventful, but we got the last two seats out of town before they shut down the airport.
So, we shall return, and stay only at the Miravida Soho Hotel
