When we arrived we were expecting a half decent hotel from reading the reviews and were very very happy! We were 2 of the first guests there and we were shown to our room very quickly by a friendly chap who carried both cases even though it was clearly a struggle. Our room was basic but very clean. We were in a first floor room, so we had a small balcony which led straight to the pool.
Food - Breakfast was basic and mainly Turkish, as much bread as you can eat, eggs, saveloy sausages or beans. plenty of yoghurts, cereals and salads. Very strong tea but lovely coffee and juices.
Lunch - 2 choices of meat dishes, chips, rice and pasta and a wonderful array of freshly prepared salads - great selection of desserts.
Dinner - Same as lunch again a wondersful selection of desserts, the cakes were to die for.
They also served yummy ice cream cones from 1530 till 1600 and burgers and chips in between lunch and dinner.
Because myself and my partner were the two of the first five guests of the season they asked us if we minded being served our food for the first two days as it would be a waste to put on a buffet for 5 people so we agreed. We were bought out masses of food including soup, a mezze, salad, rice, chicken, fish and then desserts, we felt very special and the staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful acting like nothing is a problem for them. We made friends with Ahmet I think he was the bar manager, he was a great guy and sooo funny.
The grounds and pool are beautiful and very well kept. I saw the friendly hotel handyman testing the pool water everyday and cleaning down the paths. The views are amazing, it was lovely to sit at the rustic bar enjoying a drink overlooking the mountains and watching the paragliders.
Resort - Olu Deniz is a lovely place, the people are so friendly - so many people say its just because they want your money - I dont care, they dont hassle you, yes they are trying to make a living but they are just so nice.
My partner had a Turkish cut throat shave from a young lad who works in a salon which goes off slightly to the left when walking towards the beach on the main strip. He charged us 7 lira and my partner got a shave, a massage, they singed his hairs off with a lit wand (sounds scary but its not) trimmed his eyebrows, shaved the nape of his neck and styled his hair and was laughing and joking throghout - well worth it, we gave him 10lira.
Beach is nice but I am a bit fussy when it comes to beaches and like my sand this is pebbly. We paid to go into the Blue Lagoon 4.50TL each and then 18TL for the sunbeds and parasol which we thought was a bit steep, again pebbly but still pleasant. We decided to walk to the right of the Blue Lagoon, to the private beaches which are free to get on. My Mum reccommended the Sea Horse Beach (2nd beach you come to) I would definately reccommend it too. Lovely beach bar, and free sunbeds to people who stay at Tropicana. Pedalos are cheaper too, plus sand with only the odd pebble in the sea.
This was the best holiday I have ever had, the only bad thing was the room was slightly damp including the bed, I think because we were the first guests to stay there and the room had been locked up for the winter and just need airing. Still a great hotel though and will definately be returning!!
