Just returned from a week at the Morina the hotel it is stated a 2 star, yes the rooms are very basic (bed, wardrobe, and bathroom there is aircon at a cost - this is a must in the height of the season, they also have mosquito mesh at the windows) and be prepared for this but everything about this hotel makes up for the room. The staff are friendly and helpful and like to have a laugh with you and certainly make children very very welcome (thanks for pushing me in the pool Hakki, you got me eventually!!!). The pool is not huge but because the hotel is very small and family run the pool is never packed and you ALWAYS get a sunbed without having to get up at the crack of dawn to roll the towels out and boy what a view. Breakfast is traditional turkish breakfast which consists of bread, butter, jam, cheese, olives, eggs etc, however if you do not wish to eat your breakfast at the hotel then there are plenty of restaurants in town which is five minutes walk down the hill where you can order a full english (beans are a big yuck though-not Heinz). Olu Deniz is set in the hills and is absolutely beautiful, the scenery and views are stunning. The people here are extremely friendly but they dont hassle you like they do in other parts of Turkey if you do not wish to purchase they generally say no problem maybe next year, which was so refreshing compared to Gumbet. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, it is shingle and beach shoes can be purchased all over the town, but the views from the beach take your breath away, however if you would prefer to go for sand with amazing scenery then go to the lagoon which is situated about another five minutes from the beach. You have to see it to believe it and if you have young children then this is the place to be as the waters are shallow so that the children can play. I would recommend that you ask Hakki at the hotel about the free transfer to the beach as they will pick you up from the hotel and drop you to the beach, they will also pick you up from the beach and take you back. At night the town really comes to life, there are lots of shops, bars and restaurants (I would recommend secret garden, olive grove, Old Antique and the Oyster Bar, these are a must). Down on the beach at night there are also a couple of bars that have set up bean bags and chairs with lights and candles on the tables for the more romantic of you out there. I would also recommend that at least one evening that you go on a dolmus to the town of Hisonaru which is 4km away, you can get some cheap deals here for purchases to take home and jewellery shop is really excellent value for money (the best being situated just past the dolmus pick up point for Olu Deniz on the left hand side I think it is pretty much the last shop. or if you fancy a night in then the food at the hotel is very nice and much cheaper than in town. I would also like to recommend that if you are approached on the beach by a person from the kings garden for taking a trip the the tombs and the restaurant then definately go, the view and sunset across Fethiye is amazing. There are plenty of things to do if you dont want to just relax, there is paragliding from 6500ft off the mountain, hire a speedboat, go island hopping, turkish bath, Pedaloe hire, diving and parascending to name a few. I dont really think there is anymore that I can say except have a fantastic holiday (im so jealous) and I will definately be going back next year!!! have fun..... xxx ps if you have any questions or want anymore information then you can contact me at lisa.m.hall@btinternet.com
