Just returned from a two week stay. Hotel is basic but good value for money. Breakfast is basic boiled eggs, bread, cheese, meat, watermelon, olives, cucumber, tomato etc which did get a bit boring after a while! The waiters are very polite and helpful as are the receptionists. As another review states, they are really strict re not bringing anything in to the hotel including water which they charge 3 lire for, 2 lire more than the local shops! We just brought it in anyway and hid it in our room! The maid service isn't excellent, although nowhere was dirty, it doesn't seem like they put much care into changing the beds etc. also one day they didn't bother changing the towels. Shower was always lovely and hot and air con was much appreciated! We didn't have an issue when it came to sunbeds as would rather spend time at the beach and there was always a spare bed when we returned. Location is brilliant, five minute walk to main strip and beach. You will hear the call to prayer 5 times a day including at about 5am!
Local beach is lovely, stony so bring shoes as it hurts! Sea can be rough but once you're in it's lovely! We took a walk along to sugar beach which I loved, really chilled out with calm water. Rented a pedlo and saw a turtle, if you go either early morning or after 4 you're most likely to spot one! Would recommend the fried ice cream which was amazing but the smoothies weren't great!
Blue lagoon charge 6lire entrance but its worth it as the sea is lovely and it's a shingle beach. Food is ok but we preferred the food at the main beach.
Restaurants we recommend are buzz bar, sultan Ahmet, cloud 9, the steak house and spice and pesto. Help bar has some very rude waiters who couldn't care less whilst serving you and the chicken wings looked so unappetising we didn't even touch them when they came to our table! So we suggest you avoid going there! We loved the shisha place just around from spice and pesto where you can sit and smoke shisha whilst star gazing with some Turkish tea!
We booked the jeep safari through Thomas cook which was ok.. It consisted of a lot of driving around obviously but this was really cramped as they crammed too many in the jeep and be prepared to get soaked by the locals with buckets of water and the other jeep goers with water pistols! We enjoyed the gorge which was spectacular and the mud bath at the end but right before they brought us home we stopped at a swimming pool/ cafe for an hour which was a bit boring and we would rather have got back to our hotel earlier!
We also booked the dalyan delight which we didn't enjoy much. The bus stopped at a carpet shop for an hour where they try and sell you very expensive carpets! You then go to the mud baths and sulphur bath and take a boat trip to turtle beach. Don't expect to see turtles though as we did because we only caught a glimpse of one and were then taken to a horrible windy beach for 2 hours! The highlight was seeing the tomb ruins in the mountains whilst on the river cruise, they were amazing!
We went on the sunset dinner also at Kings Garden which was £25 each and NOT worth it! We got to see the ruins up close which we really enjoyed but the meal was horrible with very limited choice, the service was bad and took ages and it was far too hot with no air con. We would recommend getting a bus to the ruins and avoiding the restaurant!
Personally I wouldn't book any excursions with Thomas cook as they sell you them saying how amazing they are but we didn't agree!
We had a Turkish bath which was an experience.. It was £9 each through Thomas cook again and based at a hotel down the road. Basically you have a sauna, a shock bucket of cold water and then you are scrubbed and washed in a creepy marble room by two Turkish men who don't speak! It's meant to enhance your tan which I'm not sure about but it sure was strange!
We went to hisaronu once but didn't like it. It was very tacky and had even more people trying to persuade you to come and eat at their restaurant. We went to the sun trap but the food took ages and when it arrived it was burnt and greasy. We tried to complain but were ignored! So we paid and left and got to bus back to olu deniz!
We really enjoyed our holiday and don't mean to sound so negative but want to warn others about the bad restaurants and rubbish excursions! We'd recommend doing some research on good excursions before you go, taking beach shoes and eating at buzz bar, our favourite!
