We stayed at the Montebello in May 2011 and were pleasantly surprised by it, it was cheap and we weren't expecting much, we had never really stayed in a holiday resort before so didn't know how we would find it. When we pulled up it was very early in the morning and still dark so we didn't see much but we were very glad to be helped to our room by the pleasant staff. As we went off peak the resort was quite quiet which suited us fine and on waking up the first morning we were blown away by the towering mountains surrounding us and beautiful blue sky dotted with the occasional paraglider.
We spent two weeks here and it was fantastic value for money, ok, the breakfast is the same every day and the cold 'sausage' meat looked rather suspicious but, I wouldn't complain and always left feeling satisfied. The Turkish bbq night was the only time I think we stayed in for dinner and was quite enjoyable, complete with bellydancer. There is so much choice for eating elsewhere though and we liked to explore a bit and found some lovely little places nearby.
The area around the resort is stunning and we had a brilliant time walking in the mountains along the Lykian way to Faralya where we stopped for lunch in a little pension and then caught the Dolmus back to the resort (a little hair raising along some of the mountain roads!). We also walked out to Kayakoy the nearby ghost town which is definitely worth a look and had some good spots for lunch. If you don't want to walk there are very regular buses or dolmus running and getting about is easy and there is plenty to do and see in this part of the world.
Back to the hotel - we think they changed and washed sheets and towels regularly every three days on average which was fine by me. The bed was made and room cleaned daily so no complaints there. The bathroom is tiny but was fine for the two of us and there was plenty of storage space for clothes. Air conditioning worked, not that I wanted it on but, my husband did, luckily there were extra blankets in the room so we were both happy (I like being very warm the temperatures in May were getting up in to the high 20's).
The best thing this hotel has going for it are it's lovely friendly staff right from the moment we got there they were helpful and welcoming and all worked very hard to ensure all the guests had an enjoyable stay. The pool area is big enough for a dip but you hardly need it when you're so close to the stunning beach (about 5 minutes walk), it's pebble so get some swim shoes but otherwise gorgeous and I would definitely recommend a local boat trip which takes you to some of the other beaches and swim spots. The Lagoon is lovely if you want to pay which is definitely worth it at least once.
All-in-all the hotel is a lovely little place in a great location for exploring the surrounding areas, close to the beach and right next to a little shop and close to the dolmus stops. It's great value for money with a friendly and helpful staff.
