This was my first trip to Turkey, and we chose the Alize mostly because of the reviews we had read on here. We wanted a good value, restful holiday. As I work with children, we chose October to go as the children would be back at school. Sadly the place had lots of children (how do they get two weeks off school just into a new school year!!) The children themselves were not the problem, but the parents who fail to supervise their children because this would mean leaving the bar area, where they are quickly getting drunk on the all inclusive lager. I was at times worried about young children in the deep area of the pool, and myself and others were keeping a watchful eye on them. The other thing about this hotel, is that it is a place that is revisited by many year after year. As such there are many 'clicks' and those who feel they are entitled to something better than other guests, because of their loyalty. If you dare choose a sunbed where they sit, or chair in the bar etc, expect a dirty look.
However now the positive. The staff are very friendly, and always said hello and took interest in what you were doing. Erkham and Ern his loyal sidekick were always around to bring a smile. The pool is beautiful and clean, such are the surrounding areas. Chickens roam around which is a novelty. There are always cold drinks available, but the plastic beakers need replacing, as some are chewed around the rim! We never had a problem finding a sunbed, but we did go out of the busy season. Our room was not one that had been refurnished, and we were disappointed with the size, and the size of the balcony. We spent no time here as it was to small for two to sit on. I was also disappointed that there were no tea and coffee making facilities, as between midnight and 7.30am, no hot drinks were available. When you ;leave your room, your key also operates the electricity. So the fridge does not stay cold, and you cannot leave anything electrical charging, which was annoying. Our shower leaked, the rail was hanging off the wall, electric wires were exposed, and the general decor was depressing. We had a small blanket each, but nothing which fitted a double bed. Uncomfortable bed too.
The food was poor. A hig carb diet of rice, pasta, chips and bread. It was very much a use up ingrediants menu, and some of the recipies were bizarre! Chicken was the main meat dish, and this became very boring. Dessert was always cake or pink blancmange. The coffee machine in the dining hall was always breaking, and if it was working there were no cups available. Eveing entertainment was in the outdoor ampitheatre, and if it rained was cancelled. There is little to do in the rain, and no nice areas to just sit quietly and read. This had to be on your bed. We had a turkish bath at the hotel, which was far from pleasureable. the girl was quick and rude I ended up feeling worse.
We travelled with Travel Republic, and the airport transfer comp[any went bust while we were there. The hotel staff were very helpful in sorting this for us, as no rep could be found.
All in all though the weather was fab, and we did have a lovely time, but I think itis fair to say about the things that could have made it better. Will I return? No, and this is because I would rather see other parts of the Country and explore Turkeys beauty further, but this is a lovely spot, and lots to do and see. Also I heard the majority of people saying they would see each other next year, and would rather not be with some (minority) of guests again.
