Just returned back from the Marcan Resort and overall we enjoyed our stay, although we did experience a few teething problems. The location of the hotel is perfect just enough to be outside the hustle & bustle of the resort but only a short downward walk to be in the action.
We arrived at the Marcan Resort with high expectations based on photos published and the hype all about this new hotel. The reception late evening process was smooth and a porter took us to our rooms. The first impression of our room was how small they are compared to the photos, plus we were allocated lower ground rooms when we asked for high floor. When we returned to reception to ask to change our rooms we were advised nothing could be done till the following day. When we checked out other room options, with no lifts decided to stay in the rooms we had been allocated due to travelling with an elderly family member. We found most people changed their rooms from the ones allocated as they were unable to get the process right. Guests who wanted quiet rooms got right by the pool bar and guests wanting to be in the action got quiet rooms. Guest who requested ground floor due to disability where on high floors and with no lifts & so on.
I think we were the first people in our rooms as the beds were not placed in room correctly, no coat hangers in wardrobe so couldn’t un pack and bulbs were missing from light fittings – all of which were sorted promptly once reported.
As the holiday progressed each day more and more was being sorted by the team at the hotel as personally I felt they had opened too early and travel companies should have stayed first before paying customers.
Pool area: lovely area with comfy sunbeds and brollies on wheels with an option of an aqua park (2 slides) which is open twice a day 11-12 & 4-5.The rest of the time it was a quiet area for those who wanted to chill and read a book or just to relax away from the large pool. The only feedback we gave management that the staff cleaned the pool area too late each day (10am) hosing water & mopping around people, which they acknowledged and advised staff shifts needed to be addressed. We did notice on our last day they were cleaning the pool area about 8am while people were at breakfast. Pool towels are provided which you can change twice a week (not daily)
Food: Very mixed although there was never a day we didn’t find something to eat. Some unusual combinations but tasted very nice – 2 soups are on & 1 was always tomato. If you are a salad buff you will be in your element and chips were on lunch & evening meal with meat, chicken & fish options. I felt the lunch menu was better than the evening meal. The restaurant manager always was asking for feedback on how they could improve for the clientele. The only criticism was there were no food labels on anything and always had to ask chef what the dishes were – would be a concern if you had a food allergy.
There is a snack bar that opens at 2pm for burgers, pizzas and chips each day and ice cream was available from 3pm.
Rooms: Are made up from 4 blocks – block C&D are close to the pool bar area where as block A&B are slightly quieter. Most rooms overlook the pool with garden view rooms are a lot quieter. With being on a lower ground had no view but was lovely & quiet. There is a mixture of double, twin and family rooms. As I stated earlier we felt the rooms were a lot smaller than the pictures but once over the initial shock were quite adequate and the shower room was excellent. As being in a Muslim country there are no sink plugs so take your own if required. The family rooms are lovely and spacious but again shower room only no bath for small children.
Beds are quite comfy but you only get a small cover, but this is traditional for Turkey. Aircon is free and was a god send with the heat we experienced.
Again as the holiday progressed more touching finishes were done, privacy nets and turquoise overthrows on the end of the beds. As we were the first people in this room the wardrobes were all cleaned on the outside but not on the inside and left all dusty marks on our clothes when opening/closing the doors. Clothes had to be hung at an angle as coat hangers too big for wardrobe doors to slide.
Please note with the blocks being open they echo and noise travels which at night can be disturbing with people coming in or arriving on late flights – just have a few rakis or take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
Reception: At the start of our holiday there were lovely comfy sofas and chairs to relax in – but one day they were taken away with no additional seats provided. Most reception staff speak good English and respond quickly to your requests. There is one who’s English is not so good and sometimes struggles to understand what you are asking, which when 90% of your customers are English is poor. While we were waiting to leave one couple arrived with suit cases in hand to check in – they were given a piece of paper from they said the TC rep. When the couple asked what was this all about another receptionist asked if he could help & the couple said they had just arrived – a few words were exchanged in Turkish to the other receptionist and the embarrassed receptionist continued with their check in. The ladies eyes rolled and said this is a good start. The receptionist is the most important area to create a first impression and a warm welcome.
Hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the lagoon twice a day to Paradise beach where the sun loungers are 7TL each.
Entertainment: Starts at 10am with the song “Good morning” from singing in the rain letting you know they are now open. Usual daily entertainment programme. Evening entertainment was a combination of professional entertainers (twice a week) to karaoke, quizzes and bingo on other nights. Although it states 10pm it would never start until 10.30 or even 11pm.
This hotel as the season progresses will be excellent – the General Manager and his team where there every day from early till late at night to ensure all your requests if possible were meet and asked on a daily basis how was your stay and took your feedback and learnt to resolve any issues as & when they arise. All the staff were very polite and gave you excellent customer service.
Although this is constructive feedback we did overall enjoy our stay and we shall return to this hotel and will look forward seeing all the teething issues sorted.
