“Very good hotel aiming to be excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Just returned back from the Marcan Resort and overall we enjoyed our stay, although we did experience a few teething problems. The location of the hotel is perfect just enough to be outside the hustle & bustle of the resort but only a short downward walk to be in the action.

We arrived at the Marcan Resort with high expectations based on photos published and the hype all about this new hotel. The reception late evening process was smooth and a porter took us to our rooms. The first impression of our room was how small they are compared to the photos, plus we were allocated lower ground rooms when we asked for high floor. When we returned to reception to ask to change our rooms we were advised nothing could be done till the following day. When we checked out other room options, with no lifts decided to stay in the rooms we had been allocated due to travelling with an elderly family member. We found most people changed their rooms from the ones allocated as they were unable to get the process right. Guests who wanted quiet rooms got right by the pool bar and guests wanting to be in the action got quiet rooms. Guest who requested ground floor due to disability where on high floors and with no lifts & so on.

I think we were the first people in our rooms as the beds were not placed in room correctly, no coat hangers in wardrobe so couldn’t un pack and bulbs were missing from light fittings – all of which were sorted promptly once reported.

As the holiday progressed each day more and more was being sorted by the team at the hotel as personally I felt they had opened too early and travel companies should have stayed first before paying customers.

Pool area: lovely area with comfy sunbeds and brollies on wheels with an option of an aqua park (2 slides) which is open twice a day 11-12 & 4-5.The rest of the time it was a quiet area for those who wanted to chill and read a book or just to relax away from the large pool. The only feedback we gave management that the staff cleaned the pool area too late each day (10am) hosing water & mopping around people, which they acknowledged and advised staff shifts needed to be addressed. We did notice on our last day they were cleaning the pool area about 8am while people were at breakfast. Pool towels are provided which you can change twice a week (not daily)

Food: Very mixed although there was never a day we didn’t find something to eat. Some unusual combinations but tasted very nice – 2 soups are on & 1 was always tomato. If you are a salad buff you will be in your element and chips were on lunch & evening meal with meat, chicken & fish options. I felt the lunch menu was better than the evening meal. The restaurant manager always was asking for feedback on how they could improve for the clientele. The only criticism was there were no food labels on anything and always had to ask chef what the dishes were – would be a concern if you had a food allergy.
There is a snack bar that opens at 2pm for burgers, pizzas and chips each day and ice cream was available from 3pm.

Rooms: Are made up from 4 blocks – block C&D are close to the pool bar area where as block A&B are slightly quieter. Most rooms overlook the pool with garden view rooms are a lot quieter. With being on a lower ground had no view but was lovely & quiet. There is a mixture of double, twin and family rooms. As I stated earlier we felt the rooms were a lot smaller than the pictures but once over the initial shock were quite adequate and the shower room was excellent. As being in a Muslim country there are no sink plugs so take your own if required. The family rooms are lovely and spacious but again shower room only no bath for small children.
Beds are quite comfy but you only get a small cover, but this is traditional for Turkey. Aircon is free and was a god send with the heat we experienced.
Again as the holiday progressed more touching finishes were done, privacy nets and turquoise overthrows on the end of the beds. As we were the first people in this room the wardrobes were all cleaned on the outside but not on the inside and left all dusty marks on our clothes when opening/closing the doors. Clothes had to be hung at an angle as coat hangers too big for wardrobe doors to slide.
Please note with the blocks being open they echo and noise travels which at night can be disturbing with people coming in or arriving on late flights – just have a few rakis or take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Reception: At the start of our holiday there were lovely comfy sofas and chairs to relax in – but one day they were taken away with no additional seats provided. Most reception staff speak good English and respond quickly to your requests. There is one who’s English is not so good and sometimes struggles to understand what you are asking, which when 90% of your customers are English is poor. While we were waiting to leave one couple arrived with suit cases in hand to check in – they were given a piece of paper from they said the TC rep. When the couple asked what was this all about another receptionist asked if he could help & the couple said they had just arrived – a few words were exchanged in Turkish to the other receptionist and the embarrassed receptionist continued with their check in. The ladies eyes rolled and said this is a good start. The receptionist is the most important area to create a first impression and a warm welcome.
Hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the lagoon twice a day to Paradise beach where the sun loungers are 7TL each.

Entertainment: Starts at 10am with the song “Good morning” from singing in the rain letting you know they are now open. Usual daily entertainment programme. Evening entertainment was a combination of professional entertainers (twice a week) to karaoke, quizzes and bingo on other nights. Although it states 10pm it would never start until 10.30 or even 11pm.

This hotel as the season progresses will be excellent – the General Manager and his team where there every day from early till late at night to ensure all your requests if possible were meet and asked on a daily basis how was your stay and took your feedback and learnt to resolve any issues as & when they arise. All the staff were very polite and gave you excellent customer service.

Although this is constructive feedback we did overall enjoy our stay and we shall return to this hotel and will look forward seeing all the teething issues sorted.

Room Tip: Block D & C are by the pool bar & close to Mosque - Block A & B are slighly quieter.

Upon arrival in the early hours we were checked in quickly and shown to our room as there was no water in the fridge we went to the town to grab a bite to eat , as we came back to our room there was some sort of alarm going off from the gas tank ( bit worrying) not to worry as they moved us next day to a pool and sea view room ( block d room 4202) the room was not as big as shown in photos but was clean with adequate storage for us just not enough coat hangers. Bathroom fab with fantastic shower.hairdryer did have enough power for my thick shoulderlength hair . Small toiletries to start you off and only bin is also in the bathroom . Have to mention the comfort of the good size bed and good air con unit. Yes was woken by the call to prayer a few times but hey we are in turkey and its enchanting. Pool lovely with jacuzzi jets built into the step/seat, and the slide pool proved popular at the certain times it was open. There is also a kiddies paddling pool and they have an areawith a pool table. Pool bar is open from 10am serving ai till 12 then you can pay for drinks if you wish. Sunay makes the best blue lagoon cocktail . They did run out of some drinks but restocked the next day. Food.... breakfast good with pancakes, eggs and omelette cooked fresh while you wait plus typical turkish . Lunch was salads with a hot choice and dinner along the same lines , this is an area they seemed tobe improving on withnew chefs starting a few days before we left, quality was getting better. Snack bar served bugers chips and lovely pizza plus icecream .we did enjoy our holiday but it was the small things that would help both us and hotel staff...lack of hotel info pack about meal times, and toilet paper rules and also some sort of storage area for checked out luggage instead of it mounting up outside reception front .will we return? At the right price ...yes probably

We stayed here for 2 weeks (8 May-23 May) was a bit nervous as the hotel had only opened on 1st May, but trust me don't be.

When we arrived we had booked a triple room, but was put in a small double with a travel cot!! but they did change us the next day and the room was amazing, even if you did get the smell of the sewer now and again. The bathroom was huge, the shower was amazing and plenty of storage for clothes. The balcony was great as well

The location is at the top and away from the strip so perfect location, even if a bit close to the mosque, but you do get used to it

There we a few issues but they seemed to sort them out with time, as i did feel they were not fully ready for guests, as the Gym only opened when we left and the spa was a few weeks away from being completed,

We only had towels at the start of the holiday for the pool as they ran out.

The rooms were kept very clean

Now the pool, this was amazing loads of room around it and the bar was great as well. The slides are only open from 11-12 and 4-5 which after a while i was pleased as gave me a rest!!

The food was great but did get a bit repetitive, just meant we headed out to the town for food.

Overall i would easily go back to this hotel, but book a family room next time, as i did get to see them and they are huge

I arrived at the marcan resort at bout 10:30,on the 11/5/13 with a warm welcome, and first impression was very good, but had requested a top floor and good ground floor facing the childrens pool B block ,when I requested a top floor I got refused, also with a mosque 100m away and with a 5am wakeup call day in and out didn't go down well ,staff were still working on my block drilling sawing and general maintenance, the hotel doesn't provide a good selection of sprits ,ok if you like cheap vodka gin &efes larger the food needs work and more choice, the pool is spacious & plenty of sun beds
I left my thoughts with management

Room Tip: if you don't your room ,complain to the manager, ( take ear plugs )

4th -18th May
This is an open and honest review of how we found the hotel
Just to warn you that as Turkey is a muslim country, so you will get your early morning wake up call at 5am - and yes the speakers are attached to the mosque directly behing the hotel. Although very good for telling the time - 5am, 9.30am, 1pm, 5.30pm and 9.30pm
Hotel at the top of what we christened walking street - slight incline but not too bad
Hotel not finished at time of arriving, lots of bare wires everywhere. we only had one curtain and our double bed was made using single sheets as they still didnt have enough sheets, curtains etc to do all the rooms - although by the time we left we had two curtains!
safe deposit boxes - £10 per week
bed and pillows were okay but you only get a "table cloth" like cover for your top cover??
rooms are small although bathroom has a good shower, but the artist impression photos are certainly not what you get!!!
we were in C Block - behind this is the maintainance yard - alarms constantly going off and on Wednesday night we had the oil container venting - as one guy commented, he felt like it was in the blitz again. hotel very slow to respond to any problems etc
I think A Block would probably be the quietest block as away from pool bar - where the entertainment at night is held or B Block - C and D block at back of hotel near mosque and next to pool bar.
Personally i found this hotel sleep quality to be very poor for various reasons.
Pool area - cleaned daily and pool nice although when the hotel becomes full, there will not be enough sunbeds
Drinks - do not expect much in the way of variety from the alcohol selections - vodka, brandy, beer and dark rum only everything else you need to pay for- lots of different soft drinks and hot drinks - cocktails, never the same taste twice? depends who mixes them. although i do have to say that they do run out of things quite often, like tea, soda water etc. Bottled water - you have to pay as they put water fountains in place whilst we were there.
dining room bar only open at lunch and dinner. Sunay, the only girl was lovely at the pool bar, always cheerful and spoke to you as much as she could in her broken english - god they work long hours, 8am until midnight and she was there everyday whilst we were there.
Food - often the dining room was never ready for service on time
Breakfast - extremely poor, the worst selection we have ever had - hot breakfast, eggs, plastic sausage and beans. again they kept running out of brown bread - fried eggs and omelettes only available after 8.30am as the chef didnt arrive til then
Lunch /Dinner- salad selections excellent and always pasta or rice available. Although no cold meat available to make a decent salad meal.
as for everthing else very poor quality - you certainly have to like chicken and chips as they were served every meal time - - mash served only once.
Soups - OMG oily and tasteless - positively disgusting
Puddings - blamange every meal time, eclairs and typical syrup soaked cakes - although they did start serving Proper cake near the end of the holiday
we certainly didnt go hungry, but they need to sort out their choice selections and the taste of their food as often very bland - although i have to say their chicken curry was quite nice
you will also notice that the casserole type dishes are made from what was left over from the previous meal???
fruit juice, tea and coffee available ( when they didnt run out of english tea bags!)
Snack bar - open 2-5pm, burgers, chips, pizza omelette - apparently okay, but didnt try them
ice cream - 3-5pm only
Tables in the dining room - cloths left dirty from dinner and still there at breakfast - also watch your plates and dishes as i qutie often found them to be dirty.
staff in the dining room - personally i found to be quite ignorant, you would have thought that they would want to make a good impression - it is the first time in years that we didnt tip anyone as the service was very poor - my hubby was still eating his meal when they tried to remove his plate, twice at one sitting.
reception staff - very poor customer service skills and didnt really speak english
cleaners - didnt wear uniforms until a few days ago, so looked very unprofessional - in our block the cleaning was very poor - stairs in the block not cleaned for over a week?? our room cleaner didnt clean the bathroom floor properly, Cleaning supervisor, still in scruffy jeans??!!! Does not create a good impression.
Also a young couple had had money taken from their bedisde cabinet whilst we were there.
Entertainment - usual - although they were trying out different things to see which were popular - evening entertainment typical kareoke, belly dancing, etc. although this doesnt start while 10pm
Disabled - they do have ramps and ground floor rooms although not sure how you would maneouvre a wheelchair in the rooms as they are small??

This was our first time in Turkey and we did have a lovely holiday overall met some really nice people, but i have to say that i was disappointed by Olu Deniz itself, as the beach is not the best i've seen. Never bothered to go to the blue lagoon as the people who had ventured down there said "dont bother" - not worth it
Tlos trip (£16.00) with Hamish McTurk tours was really good, although the gorge could not be passed as the water was running too fast and was also too cold. People who did try ended up stranded and had to be rescued!
Talk of the Town Drag Show in Hisaranu (£22.00)- OMG a must do what a fantastic nights entertainment - chicken and chips meal before the show ( average ) but a must do if you go to this area. Photos before show and only cost 10 lira - around £3.75
All trips are reasonably cheap no matter who you use -
THe Turkish people a really nice and when you say no they just wish you a good day and leave you alone.
Fethiye Market - cheap as chips genuine fakes!!! take an empty suitcase because you will pick up a few bargains or two!
We will certainly return to Turkey, but will probably stay in Hisaronu as we found this better than Olu Deniz and will do BB or self catering as it is so cheap to eat out.
Chinese meal at Dragonora in Hisaronu - £54.00 for four people including drinks (3 course)
Dell Boys - starter and main meal and drinks for 2 - LARGE portions £30 (complimentary tea and coffee)
Tequilla bar in Olu Deniz - 2 course meal - again £26 including drinks -
all bars and restaurant staff were lovely and made you feel very welcome.

Room Tip: A Block - this seems to be the quieter area whichever block you chose - most rooms over look the po...

As a young couple (17 and 19 years old) on our first holiday without parents and our first ever time outside of the EU, Oludeniz and Turkey served us well, however the same couldn't be said about the Marcan Resort for some time throughout our holiday.

Whilst we understand that it is a new hotel and had only been open 1 week upon our arrival, we feel that some of the issues should have been resolved long before introducing paying guests into the resort.

Upon arrival to the resort we were approached by a gentleman wearing casual clothes who immediately attempted to take our luggage. As a young girl this caught me off guard and made me feel uneasy! We then found out that he was a worker from the hotel and assisted us through our check in with the NON ENGLISH SPEAKING receptionist which proven EXTREMELY difficult throughout our entire holiday!

We were then taken to our room to be greeted by workers putting together furniture for surrounding rooms with a small path to our bedroom door! This was then followed by constant furniture laying around on the landing area throughout the whole duration of our holiday!

While the rooms were lovely and the decor was smart and sleek, again, there were issues! Our room card was faulty which had to be resolved as soon as we got there. We were not told how to use the electricity in our room and We were not supplied it with remotes to our television and air conditioning. There was no 'welcome pack' provided which meant that we were unaware of ALOT of information including dining times! And to top it all off, there was no wifi which was important for us to contact home! It seemed as though we spent the entire evening moaning and running around requesting things that we should have known upon arrival.

All in all our first day was EXTREMELY stressful and gave us bad vibes for the rest of our holiday!

Day two sought the meeting with our rep where we continued to moan and groan and all of our major issues seemed to be resolved. We were given a welcome pack that we should have been given at check in and the wifi issues were resolved. We had a lovely day by the pool taking advantage of the great selection of food and drinks. However, everything seemed to become bland and repetitive by the end of the holiday. We were eating and drinking the same tasteless things every day! I couldn't tell you what as there wasn't any labelling against the dishes! Not good for young children, allergies or vegetarians. I was also told by a member of staff that something in batter was chicken which turned out to be fish!!

The location of the hotel was fab! Just a 5 minute walk from the main strip where you could encounter the real personality and character of the Locals. I must admit, it was a more pleasurable experience at night!

After going out for the day to Fethiye Market, we returned to find our toiletries having been moved and the 'plug' to our shower taken apart and in the middle of the bathroom. This was in addition to the dust in our room from drilling hooks into the walls in more than one area!

It would be rude not to mention the great staff from the pool bar, buffet restaurant and entertainment team. They did all they could to assist us throughout our holiday and it felt as though they became our friends.

I feel as though the hotel still had one months work in it and shouldn't have been opened when it was. Despite only internal building work being done, it still had a huge impact on our stay.

It may seem as though we had a million and one problems but all in all we had a lovely holiday and it was nice to get away but I must admit we may return to Oludeniz again but definitely not to the Marcan Resort.

Room Tip: Some of the ground floor rooms were 'underground'! Be sure to request an first or second flo...

Hotel had only been opened a week before we arrived which is probable why it was lacking coat hangers etc On arrival we were dropped at The Marcan Beach instead and had to walk up to the resort with our suitcases after 19 hrs of travel we thought we could look forward to a drink and something to eat - we had to wait almost 2 hours as we asked for a sandwich -it did not appear & we had to wait till the dining room opened After the first meal i was really sick -not sure the chicken was cooked properly !!. After a couple of days we had to buy bottled water !! we only wanted to drink water in the day - you could have drunk as much alcohol as you wanted but had to pay for a bottle of water very strange !!The food was the same every day though the salads were plentiful & good . We had booked a couple of days out on the jeep trip boat trip and turkish bath & massage -all excellent value. The hotel itself is stunning lovely pool great staff & clean Entertainment staff worked so hard & were brilliant Shame they hadnt got the evening meal choice better and water problem sorted . Met some lovely people too. Worth staying here if you dont go out too much but i think ill be doing apartments in september due to going on other trips and wanting to try local restaurants etc. I would probable come back again next May Cant fault the staff location etc cleanliness --- Note to management --- bottle of water should be supplied in the fridge in the rooms for on arrival if nothing else Not everyone who visits wants to drink Alcohol day and night !!
