“beautiful location, great family holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

I have just cut and pasted a review from a week or so ago - because it seems to capture what we thought (and is a lazy option). All 5 of us (2 parents, 3 kids) had a fantastic holiday and thought the Neilson team to be absolutely outstanding........

We have just rerturned from a great holiday at Club Phokaia. It was our first time on a Neilson Activity holiday and we were a bit nervous as we don't normally take package holidays. However we had the most fantastic time and will definitely be trying another next year. The range of activities on offer is superb and the standard of instruction is excellent. Between us we tried just about everything. There really is something for everyone and there were guests there from all age brackets.
The Hotel is lovely, very clean and well kept despite it being the end of the season and the staff were excellent, very knowledgable and friendly. The food is also very good quality and the chefs did all they could to try and ring the changes.
If I were to pick at anything it would be that the room was a little bit basic and we didn't have a view, which was disappointing as the Turkish sunset was beautiful and we would have liked to have watched it from our balcony. The other thing would be the pool, which is olymipic size and beautifully clean, but FREEZING, only the very brave tried it. However they are small gripes, the good definitely out weighed the bad and all in all we had a great time. Thank you Neilson!

My partner and the 2 boys we have went to this hotel for 1 week between 15th and 22nd October. My partners parents were at his hotel last year and they also booked up for this year aswell, they sold us on the hotel so we joined them there for thir last week at the hotel. They told us alot of info about the hotel and i also checked up online so i thought i pretty much knew what to expect, but i was wrong. The place was absolutely amazing, this was my first active holiday, im used to going and sitting around when on holiday. There was so much to at the hotel from waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and mountain biking etc etc. There was never a time during the week that we never had anything to do.

The room we stayed in was pretty basic but, you only sleep in it really so cant complain about the room. The bed was really comfy so got a good sleep every night.

Onto the food, we found the food to be of a very high standard. There was always many different options and all of them were very good. The hotel had a barbcue area outside the restaurant were you could get freshly cooked food which was amazing every time. Only small grumble was with the food from the restaurantt, once you got it back to your table it wasnt very warm.

Now the staff. every time i have been on holiday there have always staff who are unhelpful and rude etc. Not here, every single staff member was very polite and helpful not just to us but to everyone. It was really good to be somewhere and experience this for the fist time as in all my years this was the first time all staff were outstanding. Special mention to the staff who help with the activitys, they are so nice and helpful and most would go out their way to accomodate you. I did the waterskiing most so got to know a few of the instuctors here really well, Tom and Anneka were faultless. Tom will be there next year so if you go you will see for yourself how nice a guy he is.

The kids club, this ran most days from 9:30am to 10pm. Most would say that this is to much and you would hardly see your kids, but with them being away all day and doing amazing activities which you wouldnt be able to teach them to do yourself means they have an amazing time. They also get the independance of getting their lunch and evening meal themselves, it really bring the kids on in life but we never expected the kids club to be so good for the kids.

The only small ting we were not happy with was our cleaner could have done a much better job, buckets were not emptied for days on end and toliet was pretty manky. Also from our balcony at the front of the hotel, below it was like a rubbish dump which attracted all kinds of animals, we told Frosty about this and as we were leaving for the airport it was being dealt with. Also on one of the nights you have to get your own evening meal, we ate at the beach bar. There was alot of frood and mess on the ground next to the tables, there was 6 waitors standing at the hatch were the food come out of the kitchen dong nothing, the food lay there until we left, this attracted alot of cats.

So i would most definaely return to this hotel again if they keep all the same staff then that would make it so much better as it all just runs so smoothly in every single area. I cant speak highly enough of this hotel.

Many Thanks

Paul and Gill

Phokaia beach club is at an ideal location for a flat ride or walk about a mile from the local town, where in Phokaia the people seemed friendly without being pushy, even on Tuesday market day. Here there were many quay-side restaurants that other holiday makers said they found good value. We however never felt the need to go into town for food as our meals at the beach club were always excellent in quality with a large variety in choice.
Accommodation in the main building was good and rooms had a small balcony with a sea view. While people residing in the other blocks had smaller bedrooms with thinner walls and poor view.
Like most buildings in the Med sound carries through concrete tiled floors and walls, this in turn lead to some earlier awakenings than we would have liked due chairs being moved around in the dining area at breakfast.
Our first two days were wet and cold, and this unfortunately transferred into our bedroom as there was no heating in the rooms. We were given one tiny knitted blanket that didn't help much so had to add layers of clothing to keep warm in bed. The bed was also very hard.
Tea and coffee making could be obtained for a fee, as could extra bottled water and wet suits. We found that we didn't use the tea making facilities in our room very much as it was readily available at meal times.
The resort is in good order and was always being cleaned and high standards maintained by the numerous local staff.
Flood-lit tennis courts were in great condition as were the racquets and balls. Many different size mountain bikes were available and well maintained ready for use.
The table tennis tables were ok but there were no bats to use
The water sports activities were varied and well managed by English speaking staff as was the whole resort. The instruction was first class for every level of ability in all the different activities. A great deal of patience was shown to many beginners who were sailing for the first time including myself. The equipment was new, in good condition and always available although you may find you will have to book for things like water skiing especially if the resort is full.
There is a long flat shingle beach, with many sun loungers and volley ball court and large beach bar with under canopy seating as well as deck seating outside, from where you get the best view of the sunset across the bay. The sea is swell is generally flat and sheltered by the island and spit about a mile out to sea.
Entertainment in the evening is limited but the staff are hard working and do a good job in keeping spirits up and guests amused with quiz night, kareoke etc.
The out door pool is not heated and was cold, unlike the sea.
Fitness programs were varied plentiful and seemed to be enjoyed by those taking part.
There were about three different aged children's clubs going on throughout the week run by energetic staff. The children appeared to be having great continuous fun.
Finally, we had a great time trying to learn and achieving sailing skills we hadn't expected to. Met some very nice people and had a wonderful holiday with Neilsons. Thanks to everyone involved.

Room Tip: Main building has seaviews and is the centre where meals are provided. Second and third floor rooms...

Have just returned from a week holidaying with Neilson in Club Phokaia (was there week of 8th Oct 2011). Had a fantastic time although we initially booked Club Teos but actually stayed at Club Phokaia in Foca - we bumped into friends on the plane - they were literally sat in front of us and we had no idea they were holidaying with Neilson also - a quick word with the fantastic reps for Teos and Foca and they managed to arrange for us to go to Foca instead to we could holiday with friends.
Unplanned but amazing all the same. I had not investigated Club Phokaia (only Teos) but I cannot fault the entertainment, accommodation, food and activities on offer at Club Phokaia!!
The food was excellent and as always too much choice and always something different with fresh bbq's daily - it also caters very well for all diets and also very well for children.
The activities were brilliant (and well needed for the amount of food I consumed!!) - mountain biking and skills, Lou's pilates, early bird yoga, zumba and stretch and relax were excellent. The Zumba carried on being practised in the evening with disco dancing! My boyf enjoyed sailing the lasers, cats, picos and SB3's, wake boarding (plus bruises!), waterskiing - both enjoyed paddle boarding, kayake safari.
The rooms were lovely and clean - we stayed in block 3 on the 3rd floor with views of the sea and pool and an excellent maid who turned towels into swans and butterflies with flowers!
It's my fifth holiday with Neilson now and still have no complaints - other than the fact that I've not won the £1,000 yet!! haha
Neilson - fantastic once again!!

We booked at the last miniute, at the end of the season (October) with some storms going through. Our rating is based on the discounted price we paid which made this holiday excellent value. The room was kept very clean and the food was great. The swimming pool was too cold to use at this time of year but the sea was warmer and the fitness and sports provision was fantastic. The customer services manager ensured those people who wanted to mix socially were given that opportunity and he introduced us to some fun people.

We went to Club Phokaia 17th September for 1 week. 2 couples and 5 teenage boys 19-22. It is a great resort - we have been to Lesvos and Lemnos several times before and all the resorts bring their own joys. The olympic swimming pool at Phokaia is fantastic and if you love swimming, like we do, would be hard to beat. The 5 'boys' had a great time and enjoyed all the facilities and particularly the food - great when you dont have to feed that number. The town of Focca was so pretty and certainly worth going into, we had a lovely meal on the very far side of the horseshoe in the last restaurant - such a friendly and helpful man and great food - 3 courses, 3 bottles of local wine between 4 and coffees for £20 a head which we felt was great value and sitting by the harbour side. Also we had fantastic drinks one night in a little bar with a surf board for a table. Such charming staff again and Raki with enough nibbles to sink a battle ship watching the sun go down - really lovely. The beds were too hard for me but I asked at reception and they gave me a slim duvet doubled over on my side of the bed and a soft pillow and that was fab and the cleaning lady , who worked incredibly hard, made the rooms beautiful every day. Personally we did not think the food was as good as Greece and often the specials had run out by the time we wanted to eat but still a fantastic selection. We also booked the ski package which was great and various of us dipped in and out of the slots. My only one gripe was if you like sea swimming the area marked off for swimming was filthy. If you put your head in the water there were loads and loads of plastic containers and bags, I am sure an onshore wind does not help but I think this could perhaps be cleaned up in some way. All in all a great holiday where everyone can enjoy themselves - young and old together!!
