“Great place - shame about so many kids”

Club Asteria Belek

We stayed here in the first two weeks of July.
The hotel and staff were both great and the hotel was very clean. The pool is a no go area for anyone other than those wanting to get up at 5am on holiday but the beach was lovely, peaceful and never a fight for a lounger.
The hotel is fantastic for kids - which was proven by the seemingly hundreds that were there..... there is nothing to do on the evening if you are adult - we bought cards.
However, it was a very relaxing holiday with excellent facilities in the hotel including a good health suite.
Some points that you may be slightly mislead about :
1. the a la carte is only available for one visit per stay (not per week) and you only get to visit ONE of the restaurants.
2. booking the a la carte is a pain in the proverbial - if you have two rooms you have to book them seperately and then visit the restaurant to let them know you want to sit together. you also have to choose your food for the night - weird.
3. the kids club is in predominantly german - although I suppose a lot of kids don't worry about this

Had the best holiday ever here, more a holiday village than a hotel. Food quality was excellent, Have a really fussy husband and he never struggled at all. The drink quality and choice was also vast and really good quality, brill cocktail list. Kids clubs also had lots going on, mine went horseriding, banana boats, climbingwall aswell as lots of other activities, the slides also kept them well occupied. They also loved the kids cocktails.
Lots of activities for adults as well. The grounds are vast and very well kept with tortoises wandering around the grounds.
Would definately recommend and wouldnt hesitate to return.

This is first time we have ever returned to the same place when holidaying and we have been travelling abroad since 1976! We picked the Asteria this year as we were taking my youngest son, 18 years old and a good friend of his and knew the Asteria had loads of things to do for young lads. My sons friend had not been before but he thoroughly enjoyed it when I asked on our way home! The weather was hot, July after all, temperatures officially at 38 degrees but was definitely hotter in certain parts of the park where the breeze couldn't reach! Once again the food was excellent, the only issue with the restaurant was the "munchkins" (kids running around unhindered) but hey, they are on holiday too but it can be a bit daunting making sure your soup doesn't end up on their head!! <LOL> As for the sparrows, sure they do fly in as the restaurant is open air but it is no way a major problem like one contributor suggested, but we all have different standards and I can understand if they thought it unhygenic. It would be better if it was enclosed and airconditioned like the excellent Chinese we visited on site, which you get the option to use once as part of your package deal on All Inclusive, or can pay for if your are suitably impressed and want to go again or can't take a sparrow or two..... ; ) There are also an Italian or Turkish restaurant you can partake of as alternates if you prefer. We stayed a week and had requested ground floor and quiet rooms and was not disappointed, last time we had rooms on the top level of 3-storey villa's and whilst quiet and nice, were in direct line for the sun so got very hot at the end of the day. The rooms this time were in a shady location and close to both the reception and the large bar area but was still quiet and ideal for getting to the action at night.

If I was to be hyper-critical it would be agree with other contributors in that it is very much a family place aimed at people with young children and informality. Thomson rate it 5-star platinum, hmmm, whilst everything is great and we loved it, from the view of rating it as Platinum I think is pushing it. The room accomodation is 3-4 star, we were happy with it. The food is definitely 5 star, loads of it and great quality, God knows what the one contributor was on about with only burgers left, they must have come in for food 10 minutes before the end of the dinner time. In the 2 weeks we stayed before, in 2005 and the week this time I've never seen a burger once, unless it was on the Kids stand!

Noticed this time the bar staff were a little more jaded and less helpful and it wasn't the end of the season, guess the hotel isn't paying them well as they do work hard. I was annoyed one night that there was a single barman on to serve a dozen customers on the main horse-shoe shaped bar, at about 10 mins after midnight and as the bar was closing at 12:30 and they DO on the dot, then there would be people ending up without a drink or having to wander down to the Odessa bar, the management could do with employing more staff on all of the bar's in my eyes, takes the pressure of the kids serving and keeps the punters happy as the drinks flow quickly. The same with the reception which, even though we'd organised in filling out forms on the bus on the way in, was disorganised when we got there, forms done and booked in and the wristbands given but then they didn't hand over keys and were very loathe to explain why to some irate fellow travellers, choosing instead to answer phone calls, thats not good service! I was fairly chilled about it but could understand after a long journey the last thing people needed was to be messed about.

The Odessa bar is where the disco (shows my age) happens at night, music starts about 10:30 but it gets going about 11:30pm when those interested start coming down and the Animation team (those that do the entertainment) turn up to get the punters going, yes when it comes to dancing it's not just the Brits, even the Ruski's and Germans are sheep, get the animation team on the floor and then everyone gets up! I had to smile reading a posting from a youngster of 16 who said that the dance floor was made up of kids, animation team and oldies who like to show off their moves, AHEM, yes I am that John Travolta <LOL> but hey youngster we were young too once and I'm on holiday and nobody there knows me! : )

All in all great holiday, recommend to families who are not xenophobic I found all nationalities great and everyone got on. Only crunch time is getting up VERY early to get the perfect spot for your sunbathing, I got up (sad I know) at 6 O'clock one morning and was STILL beaten by some Dutch and German people and some really oldie Brits to I must admit. But I got a good spot all the way through the holiday and noticed it's about 8:30 when most come out to get a bed, if you are happy to take next best then you get to lie in until then. Unless you kick the wife out of bed to do it, hahahaha, yes you notice it was ME who was doing it, my wife usually turned up about 9am purely because of breakfast..... ; )

If you are a couple wanting a place without the bustle of kids the Asteria is OK but not perfect, mostly at night. There is loads to do here and you can have a relaxing or energetic time. Teens enjoy it, my lads met a group of similar aged friends from across the UK and had a fun time but it's not Aiya Napa or Ibiza Town so if thats the kind of holiday a Teen wants then don't come to Asteria.

Anyone else I'd recommend it.....

I loved staying at this hotel and can’t wait to back in September this year.

The animation team is great and keeps you entertained all day. They do a great job at making you feel welcome.

The room we stayed in was perfect. How ever this was one of the newly renovated rooms. They still have a few that are not renovated – but not sure on how many.

The food is great and well varied. You can practically eat all day as in between meals there are snacks served in the pool bars.

“no way is this a 5 star butlins in turkeyI”

This hotel has the most wounderful gardens and the rooms are nice , in a remote location but on a beach . I read reviews befoe i went and was realy looking forward to my hoilday but on arrival the hotel is very busy there were so many children there and we went early june ,i would think that in july and august it will be even worse . There are lots of russians , germans, dutch, etc not many english . the dinning room was like a canteen and you could not get a table you had to leave it until late and by that time they had started to clear up around you and the waiters id not want to serve you .One evening all they had on the grill was mince meat koffter which to you and me is a beefburger and chips this is not what i had expected from a 5 star .The bar area is just a large open space and children running riot eveywhere . i have stayed in turkey in an all inclusive before and it was fab but this one was not worth the cost . You had to get up early to get a sun bed as all the children make camps from them and there parents just let them get on with it .I THINK THIS HOTEL IS MARKETED IN THE UK AS A PLATINUM HOTEL BUT IN OTHER COUNTRYS A FAMILY HOTEL .
