I stayed at the Asteria for two weeks at the beginning of May. We booked through Thomson and it was supposed to be a Platinum Holiday. I have been on other Platinum holidays but this did not live up to its name. The hotel grounds are very nice, clean and lovely flowers. At the time we went I have never seen so many children in one hotel. It was more like Butlins. The restauraunt was a nightmare, even when we went for dinner at 8.30p.m. Some nights we were lucky to find a table. If we didnt leave a jacket on the chair we had our table cleared when we went for food. The staff worked very hard but there should have been more of them. The children in the restaurants were a nightmare, you had to watch constantly where you were going or your plate would have ended up on the floor. I believe if was dutch school holidays when we were there, but apparently the hotel was only half full. I wouldn't like to have been there when it was full. The chinese restauraunt was excellent but we could only go to one specialist restaurant once during 2week stay. The main pool had the usual games. The so called quiet pool very often had children playing in it. We found the best place was the loungers in the grass areas. The bar staff in particular were very friendly and we never had to wait for drinks as others suggested. The Asteria is actually called a holiday village when you get there. Had we known this we wouldn't have gone as I think these are more for families. If you have children then this would be a great place. If you want quiet and relaxation then no. The rooms were ok. cleaning could have been better. The shower in the bath would be difficult for anyone short or less mobile as you had to climb over the screen rail to get in.
