My partner and I have just returned from our third visit to Xanadu and this time we took our friends who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Once again after booking I contacted the hotel to request the same room we'd had for our previous visits and to inform them of our friends anniversary celebrations. We were delighted on arrival at the hotel to find that not only had we been given the same room but our friends were right next door. They were even more delighted the following day to come back to their room and find flowers, champagne, cake and Shang-Du spa vouchers for their anniversary so a huge thumbs up to Xanadu for that. Transfer from the airport had been seamless and check-in at the hotel took less that ten minutes and included a cooling cocktail before we were shown to our rooms. I have to mention the refurbishment of the lobby/reception area which looks fantastic and creates a wonderful impression as you enter the hotel.
We quickly spotted another change with the addition of new steps leading into the secret garden pool. At first we thought was a huge improvement we quickly learnt that the new steps have now made the secret garden pool more accessible to children and as a result this particular pool is no longer the quiet relaxing area it once was but has now become much more family orientated. With the zero entry pool and designated children's pool already available to younger guests I believe there should be a designated adults only pool for those guests who don't wish to be surrounded by loud children all day. This having been said the secret garden pool still remains one of our favoured areas.
We felt that this year there didn't seem to be as many staff and therefore at times there were delays in service, however the standard of service on the whole remains very high, the staff do work long hours but always maintain a smile and a cheery welcome. You quickly get to build a rapport with some of the staff and they do look after you very very well
As always the quality and variety of food was very good. perhaps at times the food could have been hotter but it always tasted wonderful. We made good use of the a la carte restaurants and the Italian, Mexican & Chinese are well worth a visit.
You cannot find fault with the number of bars or the huge variety of drinks on offer, premium brands with premium measures being poured !!! wonderful cocktails and the house wine is very drinkable
We decided to hire a beach pavilion for one day. At 75 euros it might sound expensive but was well worth it with your own waiter service and a never ending supply of food and drinks and of course somewhere cool to escape from the hot afternoon sun. A handy tip is to ask for number 8 which gives a lovely view of the beach & sea with nothing in front of you
The entertainment team once again excelled themselves. We took in a couple of the shows in the ampitheatre and the beach foam party is an absolute must, really great fun
You cannot possibly find fault with the cleanliness of the entire resort. The pool areas are immaculate and the toilet facilities are amongst the cleanest I've ever come across. The cleaning staff deserve nothing but praise for their never ending efforts and attention to detail.
So our overall assessment would be that we have had another great holiday at Xanadu where they have maintained high standards and although some of the changes didn't meet with our approval the bottom line is that this hotel offers us everything we want from a holiday. If I had one complaint it would the hotel wanting 117 euros for us to keep the room on for an extra six hours. This did seem excessive, if your airport transfer pick up isn't until 1915 then surely you should be able to keep your room until 1600.
The bottom line is that the Xanadu still ticks all the boxes for us, our friends had a wonderful time and the hotel lived up to all their aspirations. Will we return ? without doubt and I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone
