Set in glorious countryside, you ponder your way through some peaceful lanes amazed that you are only 20 minutes from Faro airport and you come upon a little treasure..... So much so I dont want to tell you really, but fairs fair!
A Quinta (country house) that has been modernised by its architect owners both sympathetically and with spotless extras. We have been twice and cant find another hotel that offers the quite what Quinta dos Poetas does. It is quiet yet is completly family friendly, we have two very young children, but as the gardens are great for toddler exploring and there are two play areas you can keep them entertained, and that isnt mentioning the pool which has an excellant gradient from very shallow to a good adult swimming depth. Before I put off adults wanting a child free time, there are only 22 rooms here, and almost as many sunbeds and outside terrace tables so it is easy to keep yourself to yourself. My husband loves the extra feature of the small 6 hole golf course, he said that although the holes are short they require technical skill so are excellant practise before the large courses that are set all around this Quinta. The breakfast is served in the restaurant within the Quinta and is a buffet that is replenished regulaly and has plenty of fruit, cold meats, cheeses and breads. The evening meals are served in the pavillion restaurant that is a stroll through the gardens (lovely on a balmy evening) and is a a mixture of Traditional Algarvian food (delicious fresh local Clams and Pork for example!) and some more traditional yet equally georgeous dishes (The best steak I have ever eaten! from Ireland aparantly!!) . The Service is excellant throughout.the hotel, they remember your name, what you have already tried in the restaurant, the names of your children etc..
The rooms are delightful & spacious (bear in mind we have to comfortably fit 2 cots in), both rooms we have had have had pool views with balconies and all are air conditioned.
The area is unspoilt, most travellers coming out of Faro and turning left to the large resort. Well be different and turn to the eastern algarve! The towns of Olhao and Tavira are beatiful fishing towns and there are several rural villages with beatiful traditional architecture nearby. You wont be disapointed by the countryside, coast (the islands that form the rio formosa national park are 15 mins and a 25 min ferry journey away) or the lovely people.
Enjoy!
