“Basic room, good breakfast, ideal for watching aircraft”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I visited Manila as part of a tour of Asia watching aircraft. The Nichols is ideal. The room was basic but clean there food from the resturaunt was good value and served on the roof or on the ground floor and there was a roof top bar. Breakfast was served on the roof and again it was good. I would certainly stay here again.

We stayed here once, because of an early departure time from Terminal 4 at Aquino International Airport. This hotel is just a few minutes away from this terminal, and a few additional minutes away from the other terminals.

The hotel is right on the main street, and is easy to find. Taxi drivers don't necessarily know where it is, so you should be prepared to give them a street address. Another reviewer mentioned a noisy room on the street side - I believe it, there is a lot of traffic on that road. Our room was near the back of the hotel, on the top floor, and it was very quiet. The price was higher than nearby hotels, but the ratings were higher, and the place seemed (from the pictures) to be cleaner and better than nearby properties.

The air conditioner worked well. The shower had lots of water, but the hot water wasn't very hot. The hotel provided a basic soap and packet of shampoo. The room was large, clean, and had lots of desk space and cabinet space. The queen size bed was reasonably comfortable. Cable TV was available; the wifi didn't work on the top floor.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and got us a taxi very early in the morning. The taxi driver claimed the meter wasn't working and overcharged us. I don't have any proof of collusion, it's a consideration if you stay here - you may want to just go out to the street and get your own taxi.

I have stayed here a few times as it is convenient to the airport and they will take you there at any hour of the day or night. They also can take you to other places in the city at a reasonable price. Try to get a room away from the main street as it is very noisy. WiFi service is a bit spotty but free. The price is a bit high for the amenities but the convenience is worth a lot. Not many places to eat nearby but taxis aren't expensive.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the front of the building

I chose this hotel for a short stopover near the airport. The surrounding area is not attractive, so I would not choose it for a longer stay but it proved convenient for my purpose.
The room was not particularly luxurious but comfortable enough, with everything you would expect - aircon, tv and fridge (but no drinks - bring your own or buy from the coffe shop). The bathroom was fine, with working hot water to the shower, unlike some Philippine hotels.
There was reliable wifi in the reception area and the coffee shop. I found service in the coffee shop good and the food reasonable in bot quality and price.
I used the hotel's shuttle to the airport, which was convenient and easier than getting a taxi.
Not one for a long stay in Manila but I would stay there again for a stopover between flights.

I stayed for one night as I was leaving early the next day, considering price. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was perfect, quick easy check in, big clean room and bathroom, great roof top bar and very friendly staff. They ordered taxi and I was in the terminal 30 mins after waking up. If you just want an overnight and not interested in walking around the local area then I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The basic rooms are fine

Stayed there for 3 nights with an aircraft spotters group; it was brilliant for the aircraft. Manila itself was an experience, you're safer walking in the road at night than what you are on the paths because there are people sleeping in the streets. It really was an eye opener going to the Philippines. The rooms were clean but were quite warm and they had no wifi. It's a cheap hotel and is good if you're flying out of Manila. The food was average and there wasn't much choice. The staff were friendly enough.

I chose this hotel as I needed somewhere close to the airport for a weekend trip to see a concert at Mall of Asia Arena. The location is walking distance from the airport and - at least during the daytime - the area is safe enough, not so after dark.
We had a Quad family room which was very large (unlike the tiny TV) and the beds were comfortable.
The bathroom was a bit smelly and the shower floor was dangerously slippery from soap scum but no bath mat was provided.
However the worst thing was the unbelievable street noise - 24/7. In two nights I got no sleep at all from the non-stop noise from Jeepneys, motorbikes and honking horns that never stopped. The room seriously needs soundproofing from the street to be habitable.
There is a nice bar area on the 8th floor although the seating is rather uncomfortable plastic chairs at ordinary tables. My glass of wine was a 2008 Chardonnay in a lovely shade of orange so luckily the beer was good and cheap.
This is a fairly cheap property in a convenient location for the airport but serious work needs to be done to bring it up to half way reasonable. If it wasn't for the lovely helpful staff it would have ranked 0/5.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back or don't get a room at all. The quad room is at the front.
