“Million Dollar View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

We stayed at the Hotel Genggong with close friends and were extremely happy with the excellent quality of the rooms and the beautiful pool and garden area. The views from the expansive glass windows of our upstairs rooms were truly magical. We loved sitting on our balconies looking across at the blue ocean and not so distant islands. The short walk into Candi Dasa down the little alley ways was fun and we met some interesting locals on the way. My friend and myself enjoyed shopping on the main street and there were a couple of interesting giftware and local craft shops where we bought items that we didn't see elsewhere on the island. We dined at Vincents and the New Queen Pub and Restaurant and they were both very good. We also ate at a little cafe bakery for lunch and feasted on some excellent spring rolls (a popular lunch item for us as we travelled around the island). We breakfasted at the hotel and it was just adequate, quite minimalist. This is probably one area that could be improved in terms of variety and quantity. The beachfront to the hotel is clean and has an appealing swimming area on calm days. In the mornings the fishing boats come in with their catches and this created a busy and interesting environment as we sipped our tea after a relaxing night's sleep. Aldo (the manager of the hotel) was most helpful and responsive when I was booking the hotel and had a friendly and helpful manner. He is working on further improvements to the Genggong eg. the rather non-descript entry to the hotel and this would only add further to what is overall an incredible, value for money hotel. I would highly recommend the Hotel Genggong to all travellers.

There isn't much to add here that the other reviewers haven't said. Book an upstairs room and you'll get a gorgeous view with those beautiful glass windows. I always like to have some character to my view, and the 3 little islands just out from the hotel are beautiful. If you stay right in Candi Dasa you don't see them. The walk into town is fine - just five minutes and most of the restaurants will pick you and and drop you back if you want. And yes, Vincents is lovely! It's a small property, which adds to its charm, and Mr. Aldo will do arrange anything you wish. The breakfasts are lovely, the beds comfortable. If you want a nice walk, turn right out of the hotel and you'll soon find yourself in a traditional village with lots of shade.

Room Tip: Upstairs has the best view.

Hotel Genggong is a great place to stay if you are looking for a small hotel tucked away from the busy resorts and clubs in Kuta, etc.

Mr. Aldo, the owner provided great recommendations. He replied quickly to all my emails prior to the stay and arranged for a 1.5 tour of Candidasa and Ubud. I did everything I wanted to do in just the two short days that I had - from a Balinese massage to the beach and many cultural sites.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good. Great value for your money.

I booked the Hotel Genggong after seeing the reviews here on tripadvisor. What an awesome surprise!!! We had a warm welcome from Aldo and staff, the room was spacious and beautiful with a breath-taking view of the beach. Modern amenities, spotless, with an awesome balcony. The swimming pool was great as were the perfectl- manicured lush gardens that go onto the lovely beach. I can't say enough about this gem of a hotel. We were close to all the restaurants and shopping in Candidasa ( go to Vincent's restaurant!!). A fantastic breakfast with cappucino, fresh juice, fruit and choice of main dish - we had the nasi goreng - delicious. Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night, but we'll be back. Thank you to all the staff and keep up the great work!! Heather and Pascal

Great service from manager Aldo and all other staff at the hotel. We stayed for 3 nights in a top floor unit, it had a floor to ceiling glass fronted window which opened up to a balcony, with views to the 3 islands, great for relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. There is nice Medium sized pool with several shaded areas, which also have views to the ocean. The grounds are beautifully manicured landscaped gardens. Small but well prepared breakfast, the traditional balinese fried rice a winner, pleasant open air breakfast area also overlooking the ocean. Aldo organised us a boat tour to blue lagoon and the 3 islands for snorkeling for 300rp. Blue lagoon was exceptionally good, nice coral and fish. The 3 islands was also good but much deeper water (about 4 metres) so a bit more difficult to get a good view of the coral, ocean temperature was very warm everywhere. You can snorkel directly in front of the hotel, the coral is OK but better further out. It looks to be regenerating. It is an easy walk to town but up a small lane with no light. Town is more like a village, it has a nice picturesque lagoon across from candi dasa temple, with plenty of shops and restaurants for the tourist. Not a problem though, as many restaurants provide complimentary pick up/drop off taxi service. We couldn't get any reception on our TV but there were complimentary DVDs provided that made up for it. We dined at Wayan restaurant a couple of times, a lovely family run business with entertaining and friendly proprietors, reasonably priced Indonesian food and drinks and traditional dancing at 7.30pm each night. I would also recommend the Indonesian tapas at Friends restaurant. Many dining options in town, including a number of hotels that have lovely sea views, can be deceiving when walking past on the main road, just pick a lane and walk down! The beach is probably the best at Hotel Genggong, not much sand at the southern end. Overall fantastic value for $65AU per night. Would definitely recommend this hotel. It currently only has 8 rooms, but Aldo is very excited about planned extensions to go to 16 rooms by 2013.

A huge thanks to the family and staff at Hotel Genggong. We had a lovely stay here in their bungalow right at the front, next to the pool overlooking the beach.
Absolutely beautiful room, (had a good giggle at the toilet), so well decorated and positioned.
Not far to the main road, I'm talking a three minute walk perhaps.
Managers spoke English very well (perhaps studied overseas??)
Stay here when you come to Candidasa and try to book in the bungalow.
Clean, friendly, great bathroom, comfortable bed.
