“A great holiday at a great resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Spent a week at Bali Palms and was delighted with the quality of the resort and the friendly and helpful staff. We had a first floor apartment with a fantastically comfortable bed, good size lounge area, small kitchen, and a lovely balcony that got a lot of use. The resort was kept immaculate every day and any request of the staff was handled promptly with the usual Balinese hospitality. The pool area was gorgeous with a good size pool and fabulous views across the ocean to Lembongan Island. Bali Palms is a short walk from the main restaurant and shopping strip which is very convenient. I booked a couple of trips through the resort which were well-organised and worth the money spent. I will definetly return to Bali Palms Resort and have already recommended it to friends. Thank you to all the Bali Palms staff!!

We spent many holidays on Bali and just returned from a two months stay there. As we don't like the tourist zone in the south, nor the disrespectful behaviour of the 'tourists' there, we usually go inland. For the first time in years we decided to explore Karang Asem (North East) and chose the Bali Palms as our basis. And we were certainly not disappointed.

The arrival was a bit confusing, as we had booked a studio with kitchen and the 'kitchen' part consisted of merely an extra sink. The then offered alternative was a family apartment, which was very large and not really the romantic place we were hoping for. Finally we chose the small studio and we chose well. The room was rather small and as stated the 'kitchen' was hardly mentionable. But the quality of the furniture and most of all the view from the large balcony more than compensated that.

The Bali Palms has an excellent location, from which you have a clear and impressive view on Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, islands which are part of the Bali Province. The sandy beaches that Candidasa once was famous for have been torn away by the fierce waves decades ago, as a result of the breakdown of the coral reefs. But in the Bali Palms you don't miss the beach The pool zone is luxurious, with a kind of artificial beach, the deck chairs are widely spread and give you ample privacy, the view and the sound of the waves smashing against the concrete walls are impressive and somewhat hypnotizing and the staff at the pool bar is so nice that you spend more time there than you usually would. Not just for drinks, but for good conversation.

Except for the nice rooms, the view, the tranquillity, the surprisingly good restaurant and the central location near other restaurants, there is one thing to be mentioned especially: the staff. Whether you dine at the restaurant, you meet the cleaning staff, you pass the reception or you sit at the bar, they are all very friendly. We have visited many hotels in the past, but staff as friendly as in the Bali Palms has become rare. And, having been employer for many years, that is a result of good management and therefore a compliment.

If you don't like crowded tourist zones, if you want to enjoy the view and quiet of a luxury hotel with reasonable rates, and certainly if you are looking for a place from which you can explore probably the most beautiful part of Bali, we would recommend the Bali Palms !

We had a week's accommodation here as part of a promotional offer. This hotel is built around selling you timeshare here. We had to meet a salesperson and agree to see a presentation as part of the deal. It also meant a US $9 per day surcharge for house keeping.

If you need transport from the airport do not organize it through the hotel. We were emailed and asked if we needed a pick up. We told them yes and a reply with confirmation followed, no mention of price (if any). We were subsequently charged $52 (520,000RP) for the transfer one way. The driver gave us price list for tours etc and airport pickups/drop offs are 300,09. Complete rip off.

The promotional "hotel" rooms are disappointing. The room itself is small with a tiny balcony furnished with two old plastic chairs. Bathroom is a decent size but it smelt bad and the shower head was like needles. To my wife's dismay there was also no hair dryer.

There was reasonable wifi but it continually dropped out, the nature network would disappear every 15mins or so, sometimes more frequently. This was the case with both networks available even when getting a full strength signal.

Coffee in the restaurant was actually decent for Bali but expensive. The rest of the menu was disappointing and very overpriced. There is no reason to eat at the hotel when there are so many cheaper places to eat in Candidasa with much better food. Drinks we're also expensive, as is the rest of Bali for anything that isn't Bintang.

Staff were pleasant but in many cases things were messed up. Complimentary Transport by shuttlebus organized in advance did not arrive on time. I was also left waiting for nearly 20 mins for a staff member to unlock our room when I arrived back at the hotel before my wife without a key. I had to go back to reception to see what was happening.

Overall a disappointing stay and not a great impression to leave if you're trying to sell someone the option to buy into the resort and make repeat visits. If it wasn't for the cheap accommodation (which doesn't work out quite so cheap after the hidden costs, booking fees, taxes on top of already inflated food and beverage prices) this would have been an extremely bad experience.

Dear Valued Guest,

Many thanks for leaving your review on this tripadvisor
We would like to inform you that we are really happy to receive a review from all of our guests who had stayed with us regardless positive and negative, yet it should be fair and proportional
We have been handling so many fly and buy like you and the fact tells us most of them enjoyed and converted become our valued members

Regarding airport pick up service, we believe that everything was there at booking confirmation, not only airport pick up rate but also some excursions that you may experience during your stays at our resort
Regarding booking fee; we can assure that was stated correctly on booking form and for sure, it has been communicated and acknowledged by our business partners from which we get fly & buy deals like you.
Regarding surcharge USD9/day; again this is a part of fly and buy conditions and fully understood by our business partners who supply us with this kind of offers
Regarding over priced restaurant, we consider you gave us with a subjective opinion when you do a comparison it should be apple to apple. How come if we compare with a small warung in fact we offer you with products, services, hygiene guarantee and the nuance for dining site itself.

Hope can clarify everything

Sincerely yours,
Komang

Just to thank Bali Palms - the big pool has three levels - one great for kids - one perfect for rehab "wading" and one for swimming. I "waded" in the second level for up to an hour every day and rehabilitated a knee that , when i came here , could hardly get me up steps. Thanks also to John, the sales manager , informative, witty and not at all pushy. We are thrilled with the unit we brought and have booked to come next year already..

Room Tip: If you are recovering from an operation, or trying to prevent one, ask for a ground floor unit.

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful and joyous trip from Candidasa, Bali.

Before the trip, I had some doubts whether Candidasa is the right place for our stay as it is quite far from the most popular tourists centers, Kuta in South Bali. As it turns out, Candidasa is a far better choice for family holiday and for nature lovers.

The worst part is actually at the beginning of the trip ... Upon arriving the Airport in Denparsa, we were "greeted" by long queues of visitors clearing immigration. There are about a dozen immigration counters but only half of them were operating. We waited at the queue for more than an hour and finally cleared immigration!

After exit the door of the arrival hall, we were greeted courteously by our driver cum guide, Wayan (tel : +62 82 147 122 304) who had been patiently waiting for us for over 2 hours there.

The road trip itself took about 2 hours. After check-in the Bali Palms Resort, we went straight to the pool side restaurant and had a sumptuous meal there. After dinner, we went to bed early to recover from the tiredness of waiting.

First day activity was jalan jalan ("just walk around" in Indonesian) around town and the resort. I had been to few places in Bali before - Kuta, Legian, Tanah Lot and Jimbaran. By comparisaon, Candidasa is a far quieter place than those mentioned - I like it this way especially the traffic is smooth almost all the time. With many restaurants to choose, we had no problem settled lunch in a cosy restaurant with a table which was very close to the shore and had a magnificent sea view.

We spent almost the full day snorkeling and beach combing on the second day. The boatman, Alex offered us a very reasonable price (IDR 650,000, tel : +62-85-935-324-769) for our family of four and took us to snorkel in Padang Bai, Gili Mimpang and White Sand Beach. My wife and daughter even had massage after lunch at the White Sand Beach!

Our family split into two teams on the third day : my wife and my daughter went to do some shopping while my son and I headed to Padang Bai again for scuba diving. Both teams were very happy with the end results :-) . They were my son's 7th and 8th dives and I was glad to see his diving skill has been improving and he was enjoying more from the dives. According to him, the diving experience was far better and enjoyable than those when he did during his Open Water course in Sydney.

Wayan couldn't drive us to Tulamben on the fourth day and asked his father to be our driver instead. But just before we left the resort, Wayan called me and told me that the weather condition in Tulamben might not be good for diving. We still went there but felt disappointed after seeing the 5m height of surf at the beach. I had hoped for Daniel, my son to have his first wreck dive in Tulamben when planning for the Bali trip. Anyway, we cannot control nature but can only make the best out of it. Still, we visited quite a number of places on the way back : The Tirta Gangga Water Palace; treking through rice paddies from Kastala to Desa Gumung; and visited a Baliness village, Tenganan.

The fifth and the last of our "activities" days : Wayan drove us to Mucan for water rafting! It would be my wife and my daughter's first white water rafting and they felt the excitement even before the start. Yuman was the captain and we had the whole raft for the family. The experience exceeded everyone's expectations - there were many rapids and the scenery was just stunning. After water rafting, the company had also arranged lunch for us and it was a great feast after almost 2 hours of exercise.

We then visited a town called Kintamani where we can have a nice view of Mt Batur and Lake Batur. We even tried a jungle trek to a village which is by the side of the lake but gave up about mid-way as the sun had begun to set.

Overall, it is a great holiday in Candidasa and I hope more people will aware of this paradise in the island of Bali.

As for Bali Palms Resort, it is a great base for a wonderful holiday in East Bali. Thanks to its excellent location and the wonderful hospitality of the staffs.

We stayed at BALI PALMS courtesy of friends. We had a 1 bedroom studio apartment over their 1 bedroom apartment. The resort is small, comfortable and the staff excellent. Our studio had a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. We stayed during July and the water in the pool was cooler than expected, however it was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the resort. The bar was a focal point for many of the guest and the bar staff seem to have been chosen for their outstanding personalities, friendly, eager to please and fun. Downside for some would be no beach.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool have the best position.

Bali Palms was recommended by the driver-guide we've come to know from previous Bali holidays when we asked about long-stay places. He did us a real favour because we have found the resort excellent in every respect. The staff are always friendly and helpful, creating a community feel around the place; the facilities are excellent; the restaurant is more like a second home than eating out in a strange place; and happy hour turns out to be a good meeting place with other travelers. The huge sea-front pool is magnificent - where we spent a lot of our time. The shuttle service is flexible and dropped my wife off where she wanted to shop. Other long-stay people helped us settle in with hints re eating, shopping, sight-seeing, etc. Cheap and higher-end restaurants are within easy walking distance, as are small supermarkets and most kinds of suppliers.
We've some minor problems, like other reviewers, but nothing beyond what is to be expected when traveling anywhere. The local water supply in this part of Bali has a high sulphur content and so it is possible sometimes to get a smell from the drains, as reported by another reviewer; but the staff pumped out the drains and installed an auto air freshener, fixing it quickly. In each case we found management's response and follow-up checks were better than we've had in much more expensive accommodation elsewhere. As to Saif A's security concerns and missing sunglasses: sorry to hear about that, but my swim goggles have been returned to our room by various staff on 3 separate occasions after I'd lost them around the pool; and the all-night security patrols and good campus lighting should also be acknowledged. We'd strongly recommend Bali Palms to anybody. So much so that we plan to come back for a long stay each year.

Room Tip: We were in 515 which was comfy and well lit with a small courtyard and outdoor sitting area, but wit...
