“We loved this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

My daughter, baby granddaughter and I loved our week here. The apartment was beautifully appointed and the attention to our needs made for a very pleasant stay. It was enjoyable having the care shown to our 9 month old who was made to feel very special - and whom staff would care for while we ate! We enjoyed our tours with the excellent driver supplied through the resort - and were very pleasantly surprised when he made the special effort to come back (by bike) at 9pm in the evening when we realised we left a newly purchased gold necklace in the car. We walked most late afternoons in the laneway outside and enjoyed the interaction with the locals who felt like friends by the end of the week. A number of meals were enjoyed here - and were very cheap. They provided an enjoyable contrast with the more up market resort restaurant but we also enjoyed eating there near the pool. The service was fabulous and we found the special evenings worthwhile. Perhaps they were more expensive than the outside alternatives but still very reasonable. Sipping drinks by the pool watching the waves and the boats was very relaxing especially after a long day visiting the many attractions of the centre, north and east of Bali. We found this experience infinitely preferable to the tourist hordes of Kuta etc.

Room Tip: Seaside and pool side rooms are great if available.

This was our honeymoon trip and couldn't have asked for better place. It was out of the world the staff was extremely courteous, smiling always,be there as and when you need.Food was really good, awesomely prepared, beautifully presented and they have a special of the day which was really appreciable. The only thing that i feel should be improved is the vegetarian menu, they should add a couple of vegan dishes so that the vegan crowd can have more options, else if you are staying a week by the third day all your options are over. But over all this place is worth every penny.

We decided to spend the first week of our honeymoon in Bali and after a lot of research and reading on the interwebs, we found this place. Thanks to the RCI membership, we managed to book a studio (with a kitchenette) for a week!

At the outset, this place is VERY quiet, far from the crowd and noise you'd expect in places like Nusa Dua, etc. It's in Candidassa; a little over 2-hours drive from the airport, via narrow roads with greenery all around! Once you're here, all you should do is grab a book or your kindle and relax on the chairs, right next to the pool, facing the sea. Finish a bottle of beer in the day. There is no beach though. The view is good and you'll see a lot of ships, close-by(If you're fond of them, do carry your binoculars). There are a lot of Americans and Australians (mostly retired). No kids crying around the pool, yay!

The staff is very good (sometimes, a bit too sales-y). Do not go for the Spa at the resort. It's priced thrice of what you can get right outside the resort (check with the woman at the cafe, opposite to the resort). Even for the food, Cafe Made and Nyoman's Cafe serve excellent food at 1/3 of the prices. You can't miss the American B/F at Cafe Made, for just 3 USD (30,000 Indonesian Ruppiah)

Twice or thrice a week, they have nice performances. Balinese dance, LIVE music, etc. You can enjoy that over a bottle of wine, if you may. We did not go for the buffet meal during the performances, as they are priced heavily. A-la-carte´ was good for us.

You can call Katut, for airport pickup and drop and book him at 45$ for a day out. He has a comfortable Innova (a large size, AC vehicle). His phone # is - +62-859-3532-8844. You'll need a cab, to go to Ubud Village, Nusa Dua, etc.

Katut also has a grocerry store, right opposite the resort. His wives runs it. You can buy almost anything that you'll need from breads to beer! Their charges for laundry are way cheaper than what you'll pay at the resort. If you ask them, they'll get you the famous Bali Aga Red wine, by Hatten wines.

For snorkelling, you can take half-day cab and ask Katut to take you to Blue Lagoon. It's a 15 minute drive to the blue waters and white sands. :-)

The only drawback is - this resort is dead at 9 pm. They don't even play some music for you to sit out at the poolside, overlooking the sea. Carry your ipod dock, thank me later!

If you're a couple who is a lot into activities, clubbing and parties - this place is NOT for you!

Dear Praval,
We thank you for your time to write such a long reviews. As you experienced Candidasa is more like the real Bali, it more traditional and more nature if you compared to Kuta or south part of the island and it is perfect for relaxing.
But for people who want to have busy and hectic holiday in Bali we have our resorts at Sanur, Jimbaran or Sminyak. Those resorts are close to hectic places like night bars, clubing etc.

Once again thank you and hoping you will come back again soon.

Best regards

My wife and I have just returned from a two week holiday at this resort and apart from the lack of a sandy beach we have nothing to critisize The staff were always cheerful and courteous even
getting to know us by our first names. The one bed units we were allocated overlooked the sea
one with a balcony and the second week with a terrace although I consider us very fortunate as
although the other units overlooked the gardens we do like our sea view.

The rooms ( lounge, bedrooms & showers ) were very acceptable, the mini kitchen consisted of a fridge, toaster, kettle and micro wave which was quite adequate with a bit of imagination, tea, coffee and sugar sachets were generously topped up everydayday & 19 litre water containers supplied for a pittance. Several mini marts are situated along the adjacent lane, where limited provisions can be purchased, although we did eat out most of the time. The quality of the onsite restaurant a la carte menu was exceptional - we loved the chicken kare (curry ) although the "special events" were a bit pricey for what was on offer.

I note that other contributors mention the small warangs in the lane approaching the resort as being an acceptable alternative to the resort restaurant. We tried a couple and disagree, cheaper certainly but nowhere near the quality of the resort. Having said that there are plenty of
alternatives in Candidasa of which Vincents stands out and will happily send a taxi to pick you up and bring you back afterwards.

The pool area was lovely, right on the ocean, although the number of sunbeds was sometimes
inadequate and some of the mattresses badly need replacing. The resort was well run overall though and the management always attentive - a special mention goes to the delightful Suartini who always went out of her way to check that everybody was happy.

We were as promised picked up at the airport by our driver "Made" who later took us on several of our "self designed" tours which we researched prior to leaving home. The resort also offers
tours but they are more expensive and always included what appeared to be a mandatory massage which doesn't appeal to us. If you get "Made" you won't go far wrong, he is very approachable & he can speak pretty good English which is a great help. I did in fact take an
international driving licence with me but quickly decided not to hire a car and I reiterate other
contributors by suggesting hire a car & driver instead.

All in all a very pleasant and memorable trip.

It was a wonderful experience staying at Royal Bali Beach Resort. The staff is really courteous and always to help. The restaurant though doesn't offer much variety but they keep it interesting by adding something "special of the day" in the menu. It was a wonderfully relaxing holiday for us.

Room Tip: It's a great place if you are looking for relaxation but there is not much to do nearby and you...

This was our second time to use this property and so much has been improved since we first used RBBC in 1996. The hotel grounds were clean, well-kept and picturesque, with small ponds teeming with orange fish, lush greens all around and birds happily chirping. Being quite distant from the center of Candidasa, it was also quiet, with only the crashing of waves at night lulling us to sleep.
The staff was also friendly although they could use more training in speaking english. Two or three times, the front desk guy missed our message because it was not understood at all, and he did not write it. Twice or thrice too, we had to call housekeeping's attention to the soap that needed replacing, the required number of towels, time for them to make the beds, etc. Otherwise, they were quite courteous and respectful of the privacy of their guests.
We also like the on-site activities like craft-making, the cultural dances and barbecue dinner on the first night of our stay that we thought was worth the $25 tab each.

We did appreciate the hotel's twice-daily and free shuttle service to town, as we managed to go shopping, eat out and see a few sights around. We also took the small buses (bemo) to go out of town, thus saving us some money. The hotel is more than two hours from Denpasar, so hotel pick up can be quite costly--about $40 one way. The drivers contracted by the hotel also tend to overcharge when they offer to drive you around. Do not commit to their offers--check out the brochures from other tour operators for cheaper options. We found one that only charges $30 for the hotel-airport pick up. The 8-hour car rental was only $40, not $45-50 as quoted by the hotel-accredited driver, at least the one who picked us up from the airport.

Because the manager and the staff were friendly and because we were already saving a lot of money by using outside tour operators and eating out, we wanted to give the hotel some business too--probably by using the spa services, eating more often in the hotel resto, etc. Unfortunately, we found their prices too steep, even by hotel standards. The hour-long spa was about $40, although they later offered a buy one-take out promo. Still, the usual cost of the same hour-long body massage with use of shower, pool, etc. in another hotel in town was only $10 each. Meals too were pricey, with very limited variety, while better meals in big hotels downtown were only about 2/3 of the price. Too bad; the hotel lost a lot of business that way because we saw the other guests dining out in other places as well. Other times, we chose to buy food at the grocery in town and cook our breakfast in the microwave and toaster in our room. Much much cheaper that way.
One last suggestion: maybe the hotel just overlooked it, but waste bins are meant to be lined with plastic garbage bags for easier disposal. We could not stomach the hotel staff handling our trash by hand without any plastic bag or gloves, so we made sure to stock up on plastic bags when we went shopping so we could use them to line the garbage bin, esp. in the kitchen because of the wet trash from fresh fruits or canned food. But why should such mundane housekeeping concerns be the guest's problem?
Would we recommend the hotel to our friends? Only with wise advice from our experience and with the admonition for them to bring a lot of spare plastic bags!

We are first time users and members. We stayed for one week. The grounds, the staff and facilities in general were certainly of a high standard, clean, and well maintained. As regular travellers to Bali it was a pleasure to visit one of the unspoilt areas of this resort island. It provided us with an opportunity to relax in a small friendly complex.

The in house food and beverage service was priced the same as similar resorts. The purchase of the large still water for the room was very reasonable and very handy (Aus $3.60 for 19 litres). A recommendation for any one who stays. The lane way leading to the hotel has 3 warungs (restaurants), several mini marts, massage places, and local transport.
Warung Taman Sari and Warung Nyoman provided us with our fix of delicious balinese food for our stay at very good prices.

The resort offered: massages that we enjoyed; shuttle services; tours; and a varied daily program. The resort supports local business in all these endeavors. The Mt Batur Trekking was excellent and a highlight of our trip. But not for the unfit or feint hearted.

So if you are looking for a relaxing and pleasant stay in one of the more remote areas of Bali this resort is for you.
