“The service is much higher than it's actual star rating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

Spent another fantastic 2 weeks at the Heritage and we have been visiting this Hotel most Winters for the last 12 years. Much of it has already been said, but just to add, that this hotel is like being in a warm and friendly family cocoon.
The staff, service and cleanliness are second to none and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food in both the Mango terrace and hotel restaurant is excellent, however the white wine is good at the Mango but not always drinkable in the hotel even though its the same wine? A storage problem perhaps.
This hotel is a real jewel if you like small and friendly. Since the hotel has been under the Management of Guitry, there has also been an improvement to many of the services offered and I would like to thank him and all the staff.
As to previous comments about the entertainment. Yes it is low key, but to be honest if you want something lively, you are betting off opting for North Goa as the South tends to be very laid back. So if you want to relax and chill out I can think of no better place to be.
Don't forget to leave the hotel however, the beach is fantastic for sunworshipping ,long walks or for just watching the dolphins.
The Starfish Bar on the beach whilst having a rustic appearance, has food standards that are anything but. As committed beach lovers we tend to stay on the beach for our lunch most days as we are far too lazy to make the short walk to the hotel; it is very cheap and the food is amazing. Anthony the manager is so interesting and intelligent and Joseph and Jack are great fun.
As good as the hotel is, we recommend you go out and about occasionally. Taxis charge you for the trip, will wait for you at your chosen destination and are inexpensive.
As for eating out for a change , we sometimes go to the Pentagon as the food, including the Butter Chicken and Peshwari Nan there is sensational, however I must add that the Chef in the Heritage also makes it rather well! Thanks again to you all.

I have recently returned from a two week stay at the Heritage Village club and was very impressed with the stay that we had.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are all genuinley friendly and take care of all your needs. Service at the restauraunt & bars is excellent. Other needs are also well catered for. One night i needed an iron, within 10 minutes of asking at reception an iron & ironing board were delivered to the room, the same thing happened when i needed an adapter plug. The best bit was that there was no charge.

The food was always good and the menu varied daily. I enjoyed the wide selection of Indian foods which were presented each day. I also has a very "delicate" stomach and this is one of the first holidays I have been on where I havnt had an upset stomach so top marks for hygene & food preperation.

The resort it self is very well maintained & very clean. You are greeted by a manager every morning when you go to breakfast so any issues that you may have can be immediatley resolved.

We walked for many miles along the side roads and dirt tracks in the local area and always felt very safe & never hasseled. The local people always had a big smile & very often said hello. Free bicycles are also availible from the Heritage Village club & we took these out a few times.

Taxis are availible right out side the door and are very cheap. we hired a taxi for the day and went to local temples, markets and carnivals that happend to be on during our stay. The taxi driver would wait for 50 Rupees an hour which is great value when you consider that you get around 70 Rupees for one pound! We had a taxi for a whole day & it only cost around £26.

We also went on some great trips, the "Jungle book" tour is highly recommended where you get to sleep in the jungle, ride & bath Elephants. Just be warned that the huts are very basic, we loved it.

The Heritage Village club is a 5 minute walk from a lovely, almost deserted beach where you can walk for miles along an unspoilt shoreline. There is also a very cheap beach cafe/bar.

The food in the Buffet was excellent but twice a week was gala night where every one dines out side to live entertaiinment. you can also book meals in the very pleasent Mango club at no extra cost.

This was our first time in India and it far exceeded our expectations, this is in no small part to the effort that the Heritage Village club put in to make your holiday a holiday of a life time.

Just come back from Goa, stayed again at the Heritage, the staff were excellent and we were made most welcome even receiving a welcome back card signed by the staff. the food was always beautifully prepared and nothing too much trouble if you wanted something not on show. Cleanliness is next to godliness so the Heritage must be heaven, always spotless.
A big thank you to Guitry and wife, Ganesh, James, Sophia, Anna, joawinn, Xavier, and everyone who's name we can't recall. Thank you all so much for a fantastic holiday and we can't wait to return next year to see you all. PS keep our room 111 vacant for next march ha ha.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are quieter

We booked this place/ hotel as our belated honeymoon but did not inform the hotel.. It certainly was not a disapointment.Arrival at the hotel was around 2am on the 16th March and greated with a cold drink and some chips/sandwiches which was most needed.

Shown to our room which was pool view (316). I am terrible for picking out uncleanliness, however, i have to say that i could not find anything other then the room smelling a little musty which is to expected with it being so warm and the water. However, you could certainly smell it had been cleaned which was daily.

There was lots of food on offer but it does depend on your personal choice as to what you think of it.

Went to the beach on the first day and got burnt, then fell asleep by the pool in the afternoon, burnt was not the word, and i do not normally burn. Highest factor of suncream was used thereafter. You do not notice just how hot the sun is. The pool is clean and the pool bar is just the thing you need.
Enjoyed a meal at the mango terrace one night which was excellent, but missed out on the second night due to running out of time (only there a week).

Also, myself and husband enjoyed a relaxing massage followed by what i would call the sweat box(steam bath). However, i would not recommend having any of this with sunburnt as I had to ask the lady to use less pressure!! On speaking to the lady who did my massage they only earn 6000 rupees a month (around £100) so me and hubby tipped generously.
We both also had our teeth whitened by the on site dentist who was fantastic and reassuring, highly recommened to all who go. For the cheapest whiteing we paid 8000 rupees, (around £120).

Various activites held through out our stay including hula hoop lady, snake talk (very interesting), lawn activites, singers, gala nights plus much more.

Gala nights were great and much fun. The only complaint i have is that the singers and the bands (not on gala night) could move alot more on stage rather then stand at the back or on a chair fiddeling with computers. They did not include the audience at all.

Took a walk to the local village, which was lovely but really warm, I recommend to all who think of doing this, do it first thing in the morning, we left at 10am and it was unbearably hot.

Hired a hotel taxi to take us to margao city and anjuna Market.
Margao city was certainly an eye opener to the country and myself and husband were obviously the only tourists there at that time and we got hounded by locals to visit their shops/stalls. Getting out of the taxi the first thing we did was walk over an open sewer coming from the public wc oposite. But it did not put us off and spent a bit of money.

Anjuna market was fantastic, but busy and hot. We noticed that when the locals introduced theirselves, they all have been watching only fools and horses and most men were called Delboy and you were asked to "come and have a buthchers at my stall". You will get followed until you visit their stalls, but you have to be firm and ask them to go away. At the back of the Market was paradise, Anjuna beach which was very welcoming. We did not go in the sea though, just a stunning view and a welcome breeze.

All staff at the hotel were polite, always smiled and nothing was too much for them. I can honestly say that I can not pick one member of staff out as they were all the same, I have never been somewhere where i cant complain about even one member of staff.

All in all we had a fantastic honeymoon and enjoyed the much needed time together without the stresses of daily life. Met some lovely people who I hope to keep in contact with now back in the uk.

Would I go back??? No.
The reason is nothing to do with the hotel, people or country, but the fiasco at the airport and the airline, it ruined the holiday and put a downer on it. But fantastic memories and 400 pictures later we will not foreget the lovely time we had.

Thank you to ALL Heritage staff that made our stay so pleasent.

We stayed for 2 weeks at the heritage from 13th-27th March. The hotel is very well maintained and clean. The rooms are excellent with a/c (although ours kept switching itself off). Our rooms were cleaned & towels changed daily.
The beach is about a 5 minute walk and is secluded, we went at different times of the day & only ever saw a hand full of people.
Location of the hotel, although very close to the beach, that's it. There was nowhere to walk too, villages and things to do where at least 30 minute car journeys away.
The pool side is full of loungers which are allocated by about 7am, people claiming them with their towels. The area is a sun trap and got extremely hot. The pool was lovely and clean and a good size. There was no poolside music which was a little disappointing and the snacks were grilled sandwiches & ice cream (everyday which got boring) they also stop serving at 5:30pm.) from 5:30pm there were no food/snacks available until 7:30pm, when dinner started.
The food there wasn't great, I was expecting tikka masala, rogan josh, samosas, onion bhaji's, chicken chat, chips etc... But there was none. Instead there was fried chicken, steamed rice, spaghetti Bol, shepherds pie, moussaka, salad....the curries were curries I'd never heard off and were more of a sauce, no heat to it and the meat was still on the bone! I was disappointed that I didn't get the Indian food experience I was hoping to get.
Entertainment was also a let down, every night from 7:30pm till 11pm they had a different live band singing old English hits, this got very repetitive, and not the Goan entertainment I was hoping for, I've heard enough of George Michael, Elvis and Gina G to last a lifetime.
The hotel although lovely and relaxing need to update their entertainment.
This hotel definitely caters more for 55+ who are looking for a relaxing stay. I'm not 30 yet, so maybe this is why my comments have been slightly negative, but I would recommend this hotel & might go back in 20 years!
If you book any excursions I definitely recommend the Spice Plantation & elephant ride, the Dudhsagar Waterfall and the Sights and Shops ( where you get a ride on a tuc tuc & visits churches & markets)

Just back after 3 weeks of being spoilt and pampered. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at this hotel. Every member has a smile to greet you with. Management should be proud of them all. Food was good and plentyful, as were the drinks. Service was second to none. Mango Terrace was excellent as usual. Gala nights - extra work for all staff, but still smiling. If someone could bottle the smiles, they could make millions!!!!. Thanks again for a fantastic holiday. Hope to see you all again next year

stayed 1st-15 march, greeted with drink and sandwich upon arrival at 2am. We were given room 125 a/c unit v noisy inland view as booked. was ill for first 3 days got tablets from reception they did the trick.all staff would ask if you are feeling better and giving advice, sofia on guest services was excellent and sorted us out with a room upgrade for our second week.food to me was just above average although the mango terrace was excellent. the problems about the sunbeds is caused in main i think to repeat guests reserving their beds they have every year which to me is a shame. i too had to get up at 6.30 most mornings just to get a bed out of the shade, the difference is i stayed on mine with a coffee not leave it with a towel on to near lunchtime.i can see why people come again and again its so relaxing sorry to give some negatives but i say things as i see them. we would certainly return in a couple of years.

Room Tip: Do not book an inland facing room, ask for a premier room.
