...this time travelling with work, not pleasure unfortunately! As I drove from the office in Cape Town out to Hawksmoor I could feel the stresses of the day falling away behind me and sitting on the "stoep" with a G&T, watching the sun set over table mountain, work seemed a very long way away indeed. Hawksmoor has always been my place of choice for long, lazy weekends in the winelands, but its also a fab place to base yourself for a Cape Town work trip away from the hustle and bustle of city life and for a bit of soul food! Many thanks again to all at Hawksmoor for their blissful haven.

Our stay and the service we received at Hawksmoor House was nothing less that excellent. We had hired the entire guest house for the evening before our wedding to have a small 'rehearsal dinner'. The caterers, Zest, which Hawksmoor House had recommended, were phenomenal. And Maike's (the guest house manager) presence was always welcome and appreciated.

Maike's professional service and friendly manner were superb and she was, and still is, always accommodating and helpful. As are all the other staff.

We spent our wedding night and our first honeymoon evening here as well. The extra attention paid to us and special touches in our room and at the breakfast table were greatly appreciated.

The rooms are luxurious and the old renovated farmhouse, which is filed with antiques, made the stay feel all the more comfortable, like a home, yet something quite above the norm. However the house is far from feeling old; many contemporary touches have been added. I would call the decor style Contemporary Antiquity.

Every room has it's own character, which makes the guest house even more special. The dining and drawing rooms are fit for a king. The kitchen is accessible to all guests and further adds the the homeliness of Hawksmoor House.

The beauty therapist, which gave me a 1.5hour massage and a manicure (a treat from my mother and sisters), was also very friendly, kind and professional.

We had a fabulous time here, and Hawksmoor House proved to be the perfect base for our wedding and the perfect start to our honeymoon.

    • Disliked — There was only a water glass and drinking water in my room for one evening.

Hawksmoor is an amazing, beautiful and unique place.

We had booked to stay for one night, but within minutes of arriving we decided to stay extra nights and then returned to Hawksmoor later in our holiday too.

Maike and her staff provided us with an experience that cannot be bettered. The rooms (we stayed in two different ones - Brown and Green and saw in to the others) are all large and wonderfully furnished with antiques. The bathrooms are also large, modern and include a shower and large roll-top bath.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well kept. There are only 5 rooms, so even when we saw other guests it never felt crowded or busy. Each room had it's own out-door seating/sofa area for chilling with a book and some of their own Hawksmoor wine.

This manor house is situated in beautiful surroundings (a working farm/vineyard) a few kms from Stelenbosch with views across to Table Mountain (and amazing sun sets too). You couldn't make it up.

The service at Hawksmoor is exceptional. All of the staff were freindly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. Our breakfasts were made to order and served on the terrace overlooking the flower garden, fish pond and Table Mountain beyond. We were served tea and biscuits in the afternoon (or at any time we asked).

Maike was the perfect host and full of enthusiasm and advise on places to see and where to eat. She made us reservations at some of the best resturants we've ever eaten at.

For an authentic country house experience and increadible value for money Hawksmoor is the only place to stay in the Western Cape. We're going back again next year.

We stayed at Hawksmoor House for two nights at the end of our trip to South Africa and we couldn't wished for a better place to end our holiday.

The house is beautifully decorated throughout, with a lovely terrace, fantastic gardens and spectacular views of the wine regions and Table Mountain. When we first arrived we were served delicious afternoon tea on the terrace, together with home-made biscuits, and were given a full tour of the house, which includes a library, a lounge and internet access. We stayed in the White Room, which was actually more of a suite with a dressing area, an additional single bedroom and a huge marble bathroom. Like everywhere else in the house, it was stylish, peaceful and comfortable, with a lovely bed, underfloor heating and a fire.

The staff made is feel very welcome and were full of advice about restaurants, wine estates and places to visit. On our first evening we chose to eat at the House for a small additional charge and enjoyed a fantastic Cape Malay meal with wine from the estate. The breakfasts are also wonderful and served on the terrace when the weather is good.

I would not hesitate to recommend Hawksmoor House and certainly intend to return for a longer stay in the future.

We had a wonderful two night stay at Hawksmoor in April 08 and found it to be the most beautiful house in a tranquil setting run by wonderful staff. Maike is a real credit to this place. They offer a rustic farmhouse meal twice a week which was a welcome change from meals out so take advantage if it’s available.
