“Ideal Gateway to Stellenbosch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We stayed at this guest house a return visitors for four nights and enjoyed both the tranquil setting and the proximity to Stellenbosch "downtown", which is an easy walk through the University Campus away.
The room was clean with direct access to the pool area, the small garden is a little paradise to spend some time reading or relaxing before dinner or late at night.
The owners Katarina and Peter are very helpful with all requirements.
Overall, a very pleasant stay and highly recommended.

A lovely B&B.. We only stayed for two nights as we wanted to sample the wine lands on our way up to Knysna.. we stayed in room 4 which was lacking space and we did feel we were tripping over each other. If we were staying for any longer it may have become a problem but for two nights it was fine. The pool was lovely and its right out side your door. It is a 15/20 min walk from the center which isn't too much of a problem as its 100% safe to walk around at night. The breakfast was really nice, they have daily specials for something a little different. Scramble eggs with Billtong !! :) The little town center is full of places to eat and drink and was a welcomed change from Cape Town.. Overall we had a very nice stay, the bed was soooooo comfy and the cottage is lovely. very friendly helpful owners, Peter even drove us to a restaurant instead of booking us a cap.. Thank you for a lovely stay.

A really friendly place to stay in Stellenbosch .The majority of rooms are of African décor, well decorated and lush comfy beds and pillows.
A good breakfast is available each day a different special for breakfast.
The guest house also has a pool.
The owners are Swedish but are really knowledgeable about the area.
We stayed overnight and went to a township show . amazink.co.za
A great place to stay in the Stellenbosch wine area

I stayed here one or two nights with my dad.
Location is pretty good with centre of town in walking distance.
The rooms were little disappointing , but this might be related to price level.
I stayed in more expensive places on other days of my trip.
Pool area looked nice but we were there in off season so did not swim.
For the rest we had a nice (short) stay.

We were in the area for only two nights but Peter was absolutely superb in ensuring that our short stay was the best it could be. He sorted out tickets and taxi to Amazinc (great show) and sorted a wine tour with hardly any notice - nothing was too much trouble. The Art Room was fun - small, but comfortable and all we needed. Would highly recommend this as a great base.

The premise is amazing an laid back! 10 min walk to the city centre. The host is totally friendly and gave us many advices on what to do and where to eat out. Breakfast was nice, the rooms spacious and clean and the pool was fairly big. Overall a great place to stay, highly recommended.

The hospitality of the staff at The Beautiful South is very much its strong point. During our stay they were uniformly helpful and accomodating and certainly helped us get the most out of our brief stay in Stellenbosch. However, if you can feel a "but" coming here, you are not wrong..... The problem mainly lies with the rooms (or at least the Art Room, where we stayed). Granted, this is a budget room but (there we go) we chose it more for its interesting decor than for reasons of economy. We did not expect somewhat tired decor, towels and bedding. When combined with the not-very-smart communal areas, The Beautiful South can feel more like a hostal than a guesthouse. The place is well located (being about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the centre of town) and in a beautiful building, so it has great potential. We would probably not chose to stay here again as things currently stand, but would love to do so if and when the enthusiasm of the staff is matched by the quality of the stay.
