“standard room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

overnight stay here in standard room.the room has everything you need, tea, balcony, roomy, etc, etc. These rooms are rather old fashioned and in need of an update. If I had been staying for longer,I would have upgraded to one of the new rooms. It's like comparing a good 3 star to a 5 star. It's up to the individual to decide. All in all a top hotel.

We had a lovely stay at this very chic hotel in the middle of beautiful Stellenbosch. Behind the stunning old Cape Dutch facade a beautiful modern hotel was built, with lovely rooms and excellent beds and bedding. We found the staff exptremely professional.

Good value for money, and the breakfast was great next to the courtyard under the vines. If you are looking for a classy, comfortable hotel in the centre of historic Stellenbosch.... this is the place.

Exceptional service by the staff. Fantastic rooms. Day manager Wonder really went the extra mile on several occasions to help our family.
We stayed in one of the apartments to the north of the main complex. It was really comfortable and there was a recurring noise that was traced to the plumbing in the unit above us and fixed the same day. Our apartment was clean and neat.
The included breakfast is worth mentioning and since the weather was great we had breakfast every morning on the outside patio. It's one of the best hotel breakfasts that we've had.
The hotel is really centrally located in the heart of Stellenbosch and a easy walk to several museums.
They have a small pool in the courtyard and it's enough to keep cool in and for you and the kids to swim in. Otherwise this is not a hotel that I remember as having any kid's specific activities. We knew that beforehand and only used the hotel as a base before exploring for the day. There are a huge number of things to do in the area.
Avoid arriving in Stellenbosch on the weekend before the local universities' classes start at this time of year. They have a fund raising procession through the street on the Saturday morning and there is also a wine festival that weekend. Very noisy in all the restaurants and bars even at 2am in the morning but it get significantly more quiet after that weekend.
Parking at the hotel is secure but limited and sometimes you have to wait for the guy to get your car out from behind another car. We only had this problem once during our 5 days there.
We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: The family apartment with 2 bedrooms and sleeping couch was sufficient for my family of 5. It has 2...

I arrived after working incredibly hard for about 3 weeks and this is the only reason I can think of for accepting the horrible room I was given - I was simply too tired to complain. The bathroom was old and tatty, the shower didnt manage to produce enough of a trickle to wet my hair enough to wash it and the extractor fan in the bathroom was so noisy it was impossible to relax. The television in the room was old and small, actually pretty much everything in the room was old and in need of refurbishing. One of the cups on the coffee and tea tray was still dirty from a previous guest. What is truly unfortunate is that the staff were very friendly and perhaps if they were charging more reasonable rates to different guests it would be better received but as it is horribly expensive for a very low standard.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the superior rooms which are apparently R1500 a night - I saw a superior room and they lo...

stayed here for 1 night unfortunately. I e =mailed them ahead and asked for a quiet room...I was given room 321...inbetween 2 others and overlooking the street. at night there was a loud buzzing noise from the noisy filter system they had underneath the rooms. the batroom was very mouldy...sheets stained and the outside balcony filthy...your feet stuck to the floor.if you do stay here don't stay in any rooms starting with 32 or 22 .these must be the budget rooms and are rubbish. the other rooms are better.but 4 star it certainly isn't.
the breakfast was good.

Room Tip: don't stay in any room starting with 32 or 22.these rooms need a total refurbishment

This hotel has a great location - right in the town centre. The service is not that great. We stayed there twice, and both times we asked for an extra bed for our child. Both times the staff forgot to do it. Same story during breakfast - slow and sloppy service. Parking near the hotel is limited, a lot of guests are forced to use the valet service. Can be noisy too.

We arrived here for 2 nights on the 2nd part of our honeymoon. The room was ground floor and clearly newly refurbished and with modern interior design. It has a good restaurant with a quaint courtyard. The pool is pretty but appears to be in the shade for most of the day. Staff were lovely especially the night reception guys who gave us a good western cape geography lesson.
