We went to the recently renovated restaurant and tasting area of J.C. le Roux. The tasting room is at the bottom with the restaurant on an elevated floor, overlooking the tasting area. The decor is as the guests, a bit loud. And the guests are like the products on offer, quite bubbly.
We had a "champagne" breakfast that was served quite speedily, taking into account that they had three power failures while we were there. I was pleasantly surprised with the "not so sweet" that they had on offer. JC le Roux is well known in South Africa for their sweet sparkling wines but the bottle of brut we had went down well at the start of our wine tasting day. The food was well presented and appetizing and I do need to mention the fries, they were scrumptious (I've never mentioned fries in a review...these were really worth it).
All in all it was a good experience (we did not do a tasting or pairing, not enough time that day) but the acoustics in the restaurant area is really poor. This is not the more formal wine tasting crowd that you would expect at a wine farm, it's the sparkling type. So put on your happy hat and enjoy the crowds.
