The initial problem with The Long Table is the fact it doesn't let people know where it is - it's not until one is well into the vineyard it actually says "The Long Table!" Luckily we live close by and know it, but for the first timer it must be a bit unnerving wondering if at the top of the windy road there's going to be anything!
However once there, there's a great treat in store - in summer there's stoep (verandah) dining and in the colder weather, inside, with a great fire. At any time the food is superb.
Sitting out watching the sunset turn the mountain pink was delightful. as was the attentive staff's offer of blankets as the temperature fell. Our party (6) for dinner, were bowled over by the Crispy Duck Egg, the Capaccio with deep fried bernaise sauce and the beet salad in particular. Equally the Venison (springbok) the Duck and the Oxtail were all amazing. If anything, the dessert menu might benefit from a couple of lighter options, also, cheese didn't seem to be offered. Both easily remedied
Wines from the vineyard were good and keenly priced.
Will we return for dinner - you bet! But.... only on a Friday evening - please Long Table, consider opening on a Saturday too!
