Last year we were in CT and went for a day to Stellenbosch with a group of friends, we found this place through seeing its great reviews on Tripadvisor. We were stunned by the views over the wine grapes garden and the low price of the 4 courses menu (200 Rands), and overwhelmed by the service of our waiter and in particular the amount of wine he pored us to each and every course on the set menu.
Food was incredible last year, as far as I can remember, and unfortunately I got a bit disappointed by the menu this year when back late January. This may be a solely personal view as there were few veggie alternatives and I found the selection of courses in general very creamy and greasy.. Even the dessert options were heavy.
Nevertheless, the service was - as always - super and our waiter for the day, whose name was Melvin, was very good and chill in a pleasant professional way. Besides, I found the environment of the place really welcoming just like last year.
Good thing is that the waiter told us a new menu is coming up in 2-3 weeks so I hope to go back before leaving SA in April. The rates in this place, especially compared to other over priced restaurants in the wine lands (compared to SA prices) are incredible!
All in all, keep it up Clos Malverne, and to visitors with cars, beware: This is not a place to go if you dont have a driver, or a drinking-less person in your company! ;)
