“Great Golf resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

Perfect golf course, nice people. Top class hotel room for our family. Great Beds, good choice of wine in the restaurant. Building style a bit boring if you compare it to what is possible. Also the restaurant is a typical golf course bar. The sam for the pro- shop.. very standard and not surprising.

The front desk staff were really friendly, we both had very good spa treatments and the lady running the spa was very knowledgeable and gave good advice.

The restaurant had a limited menu for breakfast and during the day but waiters at the restaurant were really good and attentive.

In room safe cannot accommodate a laptop of any size.

nothing major to complain about but nothing to praise here really either; this is a functional hotel for golf player (the course is beautiful and in excellent condition) but if you are on a wine tour you should definitely look for something more authentic. Rooms are big, bright and clean. Breakfast is good and fresh. Staff is nice upon check out but was not very helpful for booking or to find a restaurant.

We stayed for one night on our way back to the airport and the location was perfect for that. Our room was small, as expected as it was a petite room, very nicely decorated and clearly very new. Grounds are nice and there is a pleasant pool area. We enjoyed relaxing on the verandah with a few glasses of wine, however, when we order food we wished we hadn't. I had to send my salad back it was that tasteless.

Would stay again though and eat out. They helpfully gave us a boxed breakfast as we were leaving very early. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Devonvale Golf & Wine hotel is a very good hotel, especially for those who play golf but also for others (beginner lessons are available from the club golf pro). The rooms are good, there is a nice pool, the staff is friendly, and there is a good selection of different options in the restaurant. The exercise room is very minimal but this is partially compensated by the pool and the possibility of running on the golf course in the evenings.

Why do I give the hotel four stars rather than the maximum five? Despite the advantages, the hotel has a few minor shortcomings. The internet connection did not work very well during my stay. There is no room service or food served late in the evening, the inner doors in the room look like dull office doors, and colleagues of mine had problems getting issues with the room resolved. There is a cloth washing service, but no dry cleaning option as far as I could tell. Overall, however, I think the hotel deserves a strong four stars that borders on five.

If you are staying here, you should keep in mind that a rental car would be very useful to get around in the neighbourhood. Visiting the many wine taverns and restaurants around, such as the spice route, is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Consider choosing a room on the ground floor with an outside relaxation and grill area.

friendly people a the hoteldesk. They gave plenty information about the surroundings. We booked only a room, but we received an upgrade and had a nice studio with a small garden and a terrace. It was very cosy.
We also liked the golffacilities . The restaurant terrace overlooking the golf is very nice.
There was only one small problem:when we went to have dinner at about 8 p.m.they told us the kitchen was closed and that we couldn't have dinner any more.Normaly dinner time is till 9 p.m.and they didn't warn us that the restaurant would close earlier.
So we went back to the reception to make a complaint. The lady on the desk made a phonecall to the restaurant and solved our problem. So we went back to the restaurant and had a good meal (it was on our last evening).
The meal they serve at dinertime is very good (price/quality)
The location in Stellenbosch is very good.
The wifi connection worked good but slowly and fel out one day.
