We took an Easy Rider wine tour in November 2010. Our number one take away was that we felt the tour was really rushed.
The tour was supposed to start early in the morning, around 10:00 I think. However, our guide informed us that he needed to go pick up some last-minute bookings and we would be starting late. When we finally did get going, he was rushed and mentioned that we’d have to make up the time at some point (presumably by cutting something out). We don’t get it – if you’re going to start the tour late to accommodate late guests, that’s fine. Just let the tour run late. If you can’t extend the tour, then don’t pick up late guests.
On top of this, the guide was generally unfriendly and we felt rushed at every stop. Further, the guide didn’t provide any additional information during the 20-30 minute drives between stops. He was more of a taxi driver than a guide.
The itinerary of the tour itself was good. We enjoyed the vineyards we visited and not having to arrange it ourselves. It is a no frills way to get to 4 vineyards without driving. However, if you are able and willing to drive and get some information on where the vineyards are, this is not worth it. Most vineyards are open and you can just walk right into and for a pretty low fee, taste the wines.
