“Great food in cosy winelands restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

We have eaten at Cuvee on many occasions in the past but for many reasons, not recently so we decided we should try their winter special. The ambience and decor are really lovely and the log fire kept the restaurant warm and cosy. The food at Cuvee has always been consistently very good but we were really impressed by the wild mushroom risotto made by one of their new up and coming chefs. It was without a doubt the best we have eaten anywhere on our travels. The lamb main course was simply delicious with minimal fat. The wines are inexpensive and you can have them by the glass. Simsonsig is renowned for being the first estate in S.A. to make a Cap Classique and this is also readily available by the glass at a very reasonable price. Dirk and his waitresses were excellent - the service was friendly and efficient
and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and will definitely be back soon.
Allow time to do the wine tasting beforehand as Simsonsig has some excellent wines. Their Curvee Royale 2007 would easily pass as a French champagne in a blind tasting - superb!

“Super winery and reastaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

When you find it in the heart of the country the setting is really good. Lunch outside on the patio and the service and food were very good. Prices not over the top and wines great value. Buy by the case when you eat and the deals are discounted even further.

“Bruised thumb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Considering the plethora of world class eating establishments in the Winelands one cant help feeling that Cuvee doesn't quite "hit the nail on the head" - leaving the diner with a slight bruised thumb.
To begin the setting and decor is beautiful, but you can hardly hammer your nail on a square inch of the Winelands without hitting "beautiful" "gorgeous' or "amazing". what needs to set this reatuarant apart is the quality of the food and service.
To start the service was acceptable but not very knowlegable.Several enquies resulted in a balnk stare or a reversion to the manager.
For starters we had the venison carpaccio with potato skin crisps. While the venison was tasty and delicate and the mayonnaise spot on, it was all totally overpowered by the rancid flavoured potato skins.
For mains the crispy duck pancakes were way off the mark. this is one of my favourite dishes when done in the correct chinese fashion. Here the duck wasn't crispy and the cuts and portion was miserly, the pancakes were not delisciously thin enough and the taste of the combination did not make for that sublime symphony one expects.
To conclude we had the cheese platter - which considering the amazing range of artisanal cheeses now available in the winelands, was a rather uninspiring affair.
Cuvee needs to hammer away at improving on the subtelties to catch up with what the rest of the winelands has to offer. Average is not good enough!

“Just gorgeous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

As if the gorgeous view, the atmosphere and the tasty wines isn’t enough, the Cuvee restaurant at the Simonsig wine estate is fabulous. The service perfect and the food was beautiful to look at and wonderful to the pallet. I strongly recommend sharing a couple of starters to start with, because you wouldn’t want to miss any of them.
