“Excellent Location close to Steellenbosch City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Lovane Boutique Wine Estate is an excellent location for a visit in Stellenbosch. It is located slghtly outside the city in a vineyard and is a good starting point to explore the Stellenbosch Wine region. The service has been very good and so were the rooms.

We chose Lovane as we needed a base in Stellenbosch, and why not stay at a place that can also provide you with wine tasting as well? We arrived later than expected, but a phonecall was all that was needed to arrange to be met and shown up to our room, a very tastefully decorated suite at the back of the house, looking out over the vines.

Breakfast was exceptional, with a good range of hot and cold options to choose from. The wine-tasting was downstairs in the cellars, where we tasted some of the vineyard's very limited stocks - they are not called boutique for nothing, and you will not find their wines for sale anywhere else other than here - and the experience differed from other visits to larger, more commercial vineyards in the level of individual attention given to you.

An excellent place to stay and plan your tours around the Winelands. We wished we could have stayed longer

Room Tip: Request a room facing the vineyards for a little bit of extra peace and quite, rather than facing th...

We had a very comfortable enjoyable stay at Lovane. It is conveniently located for both Stellenbosch and Franshoek, also an easy drive to Cape Town. The staff were friendly and helpful, we would definitely stay here again.

Our visit was much to short! After the warm welcome (we arrived early) we went down stairs to their wine tasting cellar and sampled some great wines - just had to buy a few bottles, which was brought to our room with an ice bucket. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean, as was the bathroom. Lovely bathroom amenities and a "power shower" with great water pressure. Bathroom was also quite big. Heated towel rails added to the enjoyment. Room was well furnished, beds comfortable with crispy white linen. The only negative was that the in room safes are still not working (see review dated 7 Dec 2013) and as reception is only open from 8 am until 5 pm, it doesn't make all that much sense to leave valuables in their safe, although they did offer. Breakfast is served either inside or outside next to the Koi pond. The cold breakfast buffet was great: good variety of cold meats, cheeses, cereals, even dried fruit and nuts with yogurt. The fruit cuts (papaya, kiwi and pineapple) and whole fruit options (wide variety) was great - much better than the chopped up fruit salad that is normally the only option. I also noticed that the plate of fruit cuts were replenished and "tidied up" more than once during breakfast time. Great attention to detail. The hot breakfast options were also very good - loved the option of salmon which isn't always available either. A bit of garnish on the hot breakfast plate wouldn't go amiss, though.

There is a security guard at night, so we felt safe returning after dinner in the dark. No turn down service, then again considering the room rate, it couldn't be expected either.

Overall, this was a very good experience and at the cost per night great value for money. We really had thoughtful, caring service from Chene, even though her colleague might not be a morning person (she was great with our wine tasting the previous day, though).

Even though it is a bit of a drive into town, this is a great place for peace and quiet. If you do not have your own transport, and will therefore need multiple transport bookings with shuttles, I would recommend the Stellenbosch Tuc Tuc, at about a third of the cost of the normal shuttles, but with a very caring, safe driver who made sure we were comfortable on our trips into town. Also, it's a bit of an experience riding in the Tuc Tucs.

Thank you very much for your review, much appreciated! We love our guests to have an awesome, peaceful, relaxing time with us, as well as enjoying our wines!
Unfortunately we are still experiencing problems with our safes! The main emergency override key is faulty and this is imported from England. We have tried from the local agents and directly to buy a new one, since August!!! We are working on our agents ! BUT we do have a safe at the front desk and plenty of our guests have made use of this. Soo sorry!!!

A perfect location to use as a base for visits to wineries around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Quiet location with excellent rooms, in particular those overlooking the vines. Friendly staff, nice wines.

The LovanE sits in the middle of the vineyards. The setting is beautiful and quiet, but not near any town or restaurant. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There are two larger rooms with semi-private balcony decks that are the nicest. These sit above the dining room. The other rooms are in a separate building. Breakfast is served on a patio looking out over the vineyards. If you are looking for a quiet, vineyard-based experience, this fits the bill nicely. If you need to be able to walk to town amenities, the LovanE will disappoint.

Room Tip: The two rooms with balcony above the dining room are best.

Very quaint property. Rooms have all the amenities - mini bar, aircon, TV, two pin plugs, hairdryer, desk. Breakfast is lovely - nothing over the top but just enough and fresh produce. Staff very friendly. Only 'negative' is that if you are a light sleeper some of the rooms face the road and you can hear the noise from the street. Good value for money and great location.
