We stayed at L'avenir on a roundtrip tour of South Africa to discover the vineyards around Cape Town.
Don't expect the traditional Cape Dutch lodge here. L'Avenir is a new, modern and trendy place. Lounge, breakfast room and bedroom were all decorated in a very trendy but charming way. Everything very clean and neat. Nice private balcony with a view on the vineyards. Unfortunately it was winter which spoils a bit the otherwise romantic outlook on the greens.
Winter time however does not seem to be the best time though to visit. Guests need to check in before five o'clock which we unfortunately we did not know (we arrived after 18h00). We got a very warm welcome anyhow !
During the winter season the lodge does not serve any food either, which was rather disappointing (we were not informed in advance - probably a mistake of the travel agent). We were convinced by the lady at reception to try the traditional evening at the Spier Winestate. Don't go ! Unless you want to queue up for food at a huge buffet, pay prices for which you can eat in South Africa an 8 course meal in a fancy restaurant, get your face painted and sit (worst of all) outside in the freezing cold (despite the courtesy blankets).
Back to l'Avenir though; the lodge operates a general lounge with a charming pick & pay system. You can freely take the drinks you like (they have everything) and you just enter them in the book. The lounge is cosy and you can find nice photobooks of South Africa throughout the place.
Traditional Breakfast on offer, not a too wide choice but all very well taken care off.
Definitely worthwhile a visit but I'll advice summer rather than winter !
