It was a while ago that we stayed here, but as we are returning this december and have very fond memories of our lovely stay I have decided that it would be rude not to write a review.
We were surprised by the overall beauty of Eikendal lodge, the beauty of this perfect little lodge cannot be beaten. Everything was perfect. Accom is very spacious, and beds are HUGE (which was why I booked in the first place!) We were in the main house so our bedroom was a walk through the large lounge - you can also access your room from outside - as you have a walkway to the pool from your terrace garden which overlooks the gorgeous Helderberg mountain and Vineyards.
We were given a cellar tour - even though it was only my hubby and I there for tours on that particular day. The wine tasting was brilliant - we are particularly fond of Shiraz, and as a result we were even told where we would be able to get one of the nicest bottles of Shiraz we have ever tasted to this day (I feel it would be rude to market this wine on a review of Eikendal as their wines are beautiful!) but that was very kind of them to tell us.
I remember having a beautiful lunch in the garden which overlooks the lake. At night its just the most beautiful place ever - you can see every single star in the whole sky! If you are planning a trip to Cape Town make sure you stay here for at least 2 nights, just to recharge - there is alot to take in when in the Western Cape, and you would be doing yourself a favour to stop by the lovely town of Stellenbosch and stay here.
Leonie and the team were super friendly. Breakfast in the morning was a real treat overlooking the vinyeards and mountain again. I remember that we went out the night before and when we returned our beds had been turned down and we had mints and small indigenous flowers placed on the pillow. At that stage of my life I had never had this before which was a lovely touch, and at this stage in my life I think its these beautiful unexpected little touches that make a stay as warm and welcoming as ours was there, oh, and the bottles of wine in the fridge was a very nice extra too! :)
As a fellow South African that has long since left I am extremely critical of places that do not portray South Africa as the beautiful country I have fond memories of - well this is truly a place that I am proud to recommend to anyone that is looking for somewhere quiet and beautiful to recharge and just enjoy the company they are there with.
We are very exited about returning in a couple of months time with our kids. It will be a beautiful experience for them too.
