“Perfect wedding venue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2010

Nick and I chose Palmiet as our wedding venue after looking at many different options, and we couldn't have chosen better. The staff were very helpful and friendly, rooms beautiful and the honeymoon suite is very cleverly situated with a large lounge area for the bride and co to get ready, food was great especially the night before (they set a table for two under the oak tree, rose petals on the table, beautiful silverware, candles and even singing frogs!) the photography options are endless and there is a lovely big pool to cool off in. We booked out the whole venue so there was more than enough room for everyone and we all had a lovely big breakfast under the vined terrace the following morning. They decorate the tables themselves and the gazebo under the trees for the ceremony, all chairs are supplied, great waiters, champagne and snacks under the jacaranda tree before dinner...you hardly have to organise anything yourself! And they have many different venues for you to choose from - a large cellar for a winter wedding, a small stone church, the gazebo under the trees, a vined terrace and a huge open-air-deck which is great for sundowners and the view from there is amazing!!

We got married last year at Palmiet Valley Estate. We had been looking at various wine estates, but fell instantly in love with the beauty of the place. It is exquisite, lovely antique furniture in individually decorated rooms, large garden with old trees, great views. We had booked the whole place for our family and friends. We had a wonderful rehearsal dinner with champagne and canapés on the beautiful sun deck. Finally and most importantly, our wedding weekend was amazing. Thanks to the staff of Palmiet and our own wedding coordinator, every wish we could think of was taken care of. We had a great South African braai the evening before our wedding. On THE day, from the ceremony under the beautiful gazebo to the reception at the Jacaranda tree until the dinner in the wine cellar followed by dancing, everything was perfect. I had the best entrance ever thanks to Fred who chauffeured me to the ceremony in an old limousine! Everybody was lovely, friendly and helpful. We could not have wished for a better venue. On top, the weather was absolutely perfect, sunshine and no wind! We are happy to be back for our first wedding anniversary!

The estate is an oasis of calm on the eastern outskirts of Paarl surrounded by some truly breathtaking scenery. It is like stepping back in time as the accommodation is tastefully decorated with antiques and furniture from a bygone age. The staff could not be more efficent or helpful, each inquiry or request from me was dealt with promptly and always with a smile. I never felt like a tourist during my stay, it was as if I was staying with good friends.
The food was exceptional, breakfast or evening meals were served under the verandah or beneath the oak trees depending on weather conditions. It is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay and I cannot recommend it too highly.

My husband and I were thoroughly delighted and enchanted by our stay at Palmiet Valley Estate having found in it everything we had hoped to discover in the famed South African wine district. The staff were most attentive to our special celebration (30th wedding anniversary) assigning us a lovely room per our request. They had the independent forethought to make a dinner reservation for us at a famous local restaurant in the event that we wanted something truly memorable for the evening. We were especially grateful for their initiative and sensitivity in doing so. We were further impressed at the owner's sensitivity to the enjoyment of his guests when we overhead him admonishing a wedding planner, organizing details for a weekend wedding at the property, not to disturb us while sunning at the pool. In short, no detail escaped him including checking on staff who frankly needed no supervision for the delightful and delicious breakfast they laid out for us under the property's beautiful sun dappled pergola.
The estate itself boasts some of the most beautiful views we found in visiting all the wine valleys. But nothing surpassed the historic legacy of the manor house buildings at Palmiet where the owner has exhibited great knowledge and care in their restoration, maintenance and decoration. This added greatly to the enjoyment of our stay. I would highly recommend this tranquil lovely property in the shadow of vines and mountains to anyone anxious to experience South Africa's Dutch inspired architecture and vineyard charms.

We spent 4 days at Palmiet Valley Estate which is a Five Star Boutique Hotel on a working wine farm. As soon as you go through the gates you are treated to a view of magnificent manicured gardens in the middle of which are the Cape Colony thatched buildings of this lovely hotel. This hotel is small enough to provide very personal service (14 rooms) and as a consequence does not loose touch with its guests during thier visit. Complimentary sundowners are served on the terrace in the evening where you can watch the sun going down over Table Mountain almost 60 Kilometers away !. Dinner is outside on the terrace under the trees and is a fixed menu that has been prepared by by a chef that truly understands how to use excellent local produce and use his exceptional skills and technique to produce outstanding food. Breakfast also taken on the terrace was memorable and provided by friendly and smiling staff. The owner Fred has created a truly stunning establishment that fully deserves its five star rating and if you want to be in a great romantic and compleatly relaxing location in the Cape Winelands this is the place to be. As with all great and memorable experiences the only regret is having to leave !.
