“Best for a ostrich ride and steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Great experience for the family to kwon more about this unique bird. The farm has many types as well as emus. The ride is sold separately. It could be longer but still a fun experience. The cafeteria serve good steaks and wraps to complete the visit.

Thank you for your review ! I am glad you and your family enjoyed your visit to Safari Ostrich Farm. As you noticed, we are the only ostrich show farm where you can view the different types of African Ostrich and also see the second biggest bird in the world the emu. We are famous for our superior quality Ostrich Fillet and again as you mention a good way to finnish off one's visit to Safari Ostrich Farm. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The visit was quite informative and also interesting for children. The children loved the opportunity to sit on an ostrich. The different types of ostriches they had were interesting to learn about. The "feather palace" was also well worth visiting.

Thank you for your review ! I am glad to hear you had a fun experience. Safari Ostrich Show Farm is the only farm in South Africa where you can view the different sub-species of ostriches - the most well-known being the South African blood-line off course. The Feather Palace is also unique to Safari and was build in 1910 at the height of the "feather boom". Thank you for your visit and feedback.

Thank you for your review ! Ostriches are desert birds and therefore Oudtshoorn is ideal for farming with them. You are right in saying it gets very hot in Oudtshoorn. The tour is outdoors since it is a tour of the farm. We do provide places along the tour that is covered for protection against the sun. I am sorry you and your baby could not finnish the tour due to the heat. We do stop the riding of ostriches when it gets very hot for their own well-being and safe-keeping. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Neat place - ride them birds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We came to Oudtshoorn with only one intent - do ride an Ostrich. And Safari delivered. We were guided around the property by Alma, who was very informative, pleasant and friendly. We had a good time viewing an ostrich hatch, and took in some facts about breeding and commercial value. After standing on some eggs, we went off to ride the birds. Thrilling experience - only wished it had been longer. For those who have seconds thoughts based on the indemnity form, take our word when we say it is safe and very much worth the remote / small risk. Thankfully, my wife and I were the only two in our group of 8 to ride, so we had our fair share of fun. While I felt the rides were a bit rushed, we did arrive late in the afternoon, so that did strain the staff on the end of day time.

Thank you for your review ! I am glad to hear you enjoyed the entire ostrich tour experience and had a fun time. The ride on the ostriches are quick so as not to stress the bird and not because of the staff. We are one of only 3 places in South Africa where tourists are allowed to ride ostriches by the Animal Welfare Organization. We gladly adhere to their rules since we value our ostriches and that's why the ride is short - we want you to enjoy the unique experience of riding in a safe enviroment for both the visitor and the ostrich. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Quite ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The show farm didn't fascinate me that much I have to say. It was a nice attraction, and interesting to see the ostrichs and stuff, but without a ride on the ostrich it's fairly unspectacular and dull.
Our guide was super sympathetic, but since there was so much rain the days before we were there the ride on the ostrichs was not possible, so the trip ended disappointingly for me...

Thank you for your review ! The guided tour is approximately one hour long and the part where we allow tourists who weigh less than 70kg to ride and then see our poroffesional jockeys end the tour with a quick race is probably 5 minutes of the one hour tour. I am sorry you could not ride or see the race on the day you visited due to the rain we had during the days before your visit. When it's wet and the ground becomes muddy we stop the ridig for the ostriches' safety. We do not want to take the chance that they slip and break their leg and then we have to kill them to end their suffering. One can not fix a ostrich's leg once it's broken. We do not get rain often and you were unlucky to come visit us on one of those few days when we had rain and could not ride the ostriches. Hopefully yuo will come visit beautifull South Africa again in future and we will see you again. Thank you for your visit and feedback.
