“Peace and great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We spent two nights here, and found it a perfect blend of great comfort and peace, perfect location and wonderful dinner. We ate in the first night and then walked down to town (short stroll along well lit road) the second night for variety. Rooms around a charming courtyard. Nice touches included hot water bottles since August was nippy!
Staff very helpful.

Rooms were very spacious, and had a classic decor. All the rooms appeared to open out into a central garden area with a water feature, which made for a very relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was good, but not great.

The location was quite convenient and it was fairly easy to access many of the main local attractions (we had a rental car).

This is probably the best place to stay in Oudtshoorn, but I did find it to be a bit expensive for South African standards.

We stayed at the Rosenhof on our drive to Plettenberg. The place is a great location. It is only a 10 minute walk from the town's restaurants and such. If you have a car you can drive to the Cango Caves, Cango Ostrich Farm, and even closer the Wildlife safari is just up the street. The rooms are very nicely decorated and massive in size. The grounds are beautiful and provided us a good stroll through their fruit and flower garden. The restaurant was very delicious. We ate our breakfast outside by the pool and it was very relaxing.

What an oasis along the garden route! Rosenhof is an elegant country house surrounded by lush gardens of roses, herbs and trees. We found a pomegranate and lime tree next to the huge herb garden.

The hotel is away from the busy center – about 2 km – and is on the way to game sanctuaries and the Cango caves. The hotel is adjacent to a nice residential neighbourhood so one can walk around there safely during the day.

Rooms are duplexes built around a lovely small garden with flowers and fountain. Each comes with a large porch for outdoor sitting to enjoy the quiet ambience and to plan your day. (Wi-fi is available for those who want to be wired.)

The rooms are very large with big chairs and – hurrah – good lighting by the chairs and the bedside. The bathroom also is very large with double sinks, separate shower, towel warmer and natural light through two windows.

Rosenhof has a terrific restaurant and we had their four-course prix fixe meal which was excellent. Both of us had ostrich fillets (you are in the middle of ostrich country!). Dinner was impeccable and a wonderful treat. Be sure to eat in at least once. We also went down the street to a local place, Jemimas, which also was really good. It filled quickly so be sure to get reservations. It’s small but service is efficient without rushing. Food is more homespun but delicious.

Just like dinner, breakfast at Rosenhof is a treat. The continental breakfast is more than adequate and you can order hot food from a large menu.

Having driven the usual South African tourists' long, long journey, The Rosenhof was 'just the ticket'. A generous welcome on arrival,a spacious well appointed suite with a terrace and a delightful pool in a lovely setting. Reception was superb with both girls making every effort to help us enjoy our stay. The recommende restaurant was very good and easy to find.
Breakfast in the gazebo, including Buck's Fiz, was great; well cooked and presented;swiftly delivered.
We dined in one night but were not over impressed with the meal although the staff gave exemplary service. As a result we ate out the next evening.
The rooms surround a tranquil grassed and treed courtyard with a pond which provides a great setting when one uses one's terrace.
My only quip is that therooms should have 2 case stands as most travellers are couples and live out of their suitcases. It would be so much more convenient and tidy.

Room Tip: rooms furthest from the main building have the best view.

Great location for us as we had a car, its between the caves on one side and the Safari Ostrich farm on the other. Beautiful setting once inside the gates with well appointed good sized rooms set in a square around a grassed area. reasonable size swimming pool and a good breakfast which could be taken inside or out. The staff were very helpful we felt very comfortable during our two night stay. Worth noting if your doing what we did the Nel museum closes Sat. pm and Sun all day

Room Tip: They were all of similar high quality, the main difference between the honeymoon siute and the stand...

Hotel Rosenhof guest house in Oudtshoorn is definitely marvellous. At the first impression you are back in a wonderful Victorian cottage period. The rooms - cottage are positioned around a beautiful rose garden. Each cottage has its own terrace with lovely armchairs where you can enjoy reading a book, drinking a glass of wine etc.
The hotel has a lovely garden house where you have breakfast. There's also a
very nice swimming pool, fitness room and there's even a spa.
Dinner is served in the dining room and afterwards you can have a late drink in the real English bar or on the back terrace, again with a view on a another beautiful rose garden.
Fully the 5 stars worth it !!
