We were recommended here, and rightly so. The house is perched on top of the river bank in Oudtshoorn, with magnificent ivews to the Swartberg mountains in the far distance, and with sweeping lawns down to the river. The house is reasonably old - built in the 1930s, and has been burnished to perfection. The smell of beeswax for the floors and the tables was lovely.
Our room was an annexe attached to the main house, reached by a separate entrance, and facing the river and the mountains, so beautiful views from your bedroom. Spotlessly clean, and very comfortable - you disappeared into the bed, and the duvets were thick and fluffy. It was cold whilst we were there, but there is an air conditioning unit in the room.
Des and Liz made us very welcome. Liz is the gardener, and the grounds are beautiful. Des had lots of local knowledge, and was very helpful with where to eat, visit, etc - two local restaurants nearby are excellent - 'Kalinka', which is Russian owned, and 'Jemima's, also very good.
Cooked breakfast next morning was excellent, with a good selection of fruit and cereal in addition to the full English. The service was very good, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We were also well placed for the Cango caves, Vrede waterfall, and the Swartberg Pass, all not far away.
