We decided to marry abroad in Cape Town, South Africa.
I visited this venue among others in Sept 2010 whilst I was researching venues for our wedding on 29 Feb 2012. I fell in love with the venue as soon as we got there. The venue is set up on the hill over looking Noordhoek beach, (Views are amazing) the buildings seem to blend in with the surrounding Melkwood forest. Its adds to the atmosphere and charm and romance. I was shown the venue by their wedding co-ordinator at the time, I got the full tour of all the different function rooms (All were great, would have gone with Treetops if we had more guests), and the different types of accommodation our guests can stay at when they arrive. I left knowing that this was the venue.
Fast track a year on, during this time the original wedding co-orinator who I met with had left and a new lady Mirielle had taken over as the wedding co-ordinator. I was worried! It was tricky enough having to re-explain everything that was discussed with the original wedding co-ordinator a year ago but also now having to deal with time difference, international skype calls and loads of emails with ideas, suggestions and requests to a person you've never met. But I could not have asked for a team of people!
All I can say is - Mirielle and Candice, not only provided plenty of reassurances, but went out of their way to accommodate some of our requests, provided their own creative input, steered us in the right direction of good value, alternate suppliers if we didn't want to use their in house team and most importantly gave us some assistance in finding a Reverend and live music. The fact that we were communicating internationally wasn't even an issue.
A couple of days before the wedding, we had just flown in from the UK, and drove down to meet with Mirielle for the first time. (This is crazy! meeting your wedding co-ordinator for the first time 2 days before the wedding!) I was really nervous, what if she'd misinterpreted some of our ideas etc etc - nothing to worry about. Everything in hand, already organised and any changes we wanted to make, no problem. Big smiles!
Wedding day Feb 29th 2012! We decided to use the Crown Eagle Villa set at the top of the grounds as our venue instead of the traditional function rooms down at the main reception area. All I can say is how organised everything was. The staff were very friendly, attentive and organised. Mirielle is a very talented and creative individual and had interpreted our vision beyond expectation.
All of the guests loved their accommodation! 14 of us stayed in the Crown Eagle Villa, 2 families each had their own 3 bedroom cottage and one couple had a 2 bedroom "honeymoon suite". All were very tastefully decorated, simple and in keeping with the nature theme. Every one loved it! The only complaint was how steep the hills are getting to and from reception, the cottages and the villa. Even with a car, its a one track road with passing points and wiggigly. I say - it all adds to the charm. However, not so fun for the elderly and nervous drivers.
The whole event from start to finish, ran very smoothly. The food and drink was great, we had the Braai Menu with Melktart for pudding. A fun treat for all our UK guests. As soon as we'd finished dinner, tables were whisked away and the dance floor emerged! Again very organised, no fuss.
The next morning, breakfast was included in our booking which was had down at reception.
Fantastic meal in a lovely setting. Nice way to say good bye to our friends and family some who stayed on a couple of nights at Monkey others moved on to their next adventure.
Our only regret is that we didn't stay an extra night.
We plan to return to this stunning venue for our 1st wedding anniversary which will be the next leap year!
Price wise, accommodation was a bit higher than some of our guests were expecting to pay, but felt they got value for money.
You can't go wrong with room choice.
