“Excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

the Lodge is in an enviable position overlooking the bay. We had a balcony room next to the breakfast room, and the views - and sunset, were fantastic. The breakfasts were well cooked and catered for and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful. A note of caution, it is at the top of a very steep hill, we could not have walked (due to age!) so used our car all the time.
Knynsa is a lovely town with plenty of shops and restaurants. we visited the elephant sanctuary where we watched the orphan elephants and their young ones. You can get very close to them and stroke them - wonderful picture opportunities.

Room Tip: We had a twin bedded room with a balcony - maybe that helps? But I think all rooms would be quiet.

I have stayed at Guinea Fowl Lodge on numerous occasions and am yet to be disappointed. A beautiful setting with wonderful views over Knysna, a convenient location to explore the town, delicious breakfast and exceptional service make it a pleasure to stay at this guest house. The rooms are stylishly furnished and comfortable, with three rooms having a balcony with views over the town and lagoon. Mart and Pete are wonderful hosts and are always available to provide local information. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Request rooms with a balcony overlooking the lagoon

The Guinea Fowl Lodge was situated high up on the hill with a breathtaking view over Knysna. Even if the location was high up, there was a short cut down to the town.

The service was excellent and so was the breakfast that was served on the terrace. Our hosts were always willing to give us valuable information on how to find our way to different places.

We stayed in a family room, with a twin bed and a bed sofa. The room was nicely furnished with antiques. Outside the room we had a pergola covered with grapes, a nice place to sit and relax.

The pool was clean and invited to both a morning and afternoon swim.

Unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night but wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely guest house to others. The room was beautifully furnished with antiques and Mart was a wonderful hostess, the breakfast was one of the best we had during our trip. the location is perfect, just a few minutes walking distance to the town, also very good value for money.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in January, 2012, and were extremely impressed with the location, the property and the hosts. The house is situated on the hill overlooking the town and the lagoon, with a large deck showing the lovely views and used for breakfast when weather permits. We had a large room (Room 4), which was beautifully furnished and had it's own small patio overhung with a vine that was heavy with grapes when we were there. The breakfasts were all one could wish for and the hosts, Mart and Pete, were hospitable and helpful with advice about local attractions. All in all a very enjoyable stay - despite the rain whilst we were there - and we hope to be able to return.

Also during our 4th stay we were very satisfied with Mart and Pete and their staff at this very comfortable and well located lodge.
Also some of our German friends and my brother with family have been here.
Some of the quiet, comfortable rooms with nice "old style" furniture have a private balcony overlooking the lagoone.
When having the full course breakfast at the main terasse you will just like to sit the hole day there and look to the city and lagoone.
You may leave your car at the private parking and just take down the few steps to the city center.
Indeed the best value for your money at Knysna. For sure, we will come back again in near future

Can not say enough about Mart & Pete the owners of this place. Mart went out of her way to make my friend's birthday memorable with all of her helpful arrangements. Pete cooked fantastic breakfasts. Both were so friendly and easy to talk to that it was sad to say goodbye to them. Felt like we were leaving good friends. The place itself is so cosy & comfortable. Beautiful garden, great views from the porch of the waterfront, easy to walk into town. A must stay place.
