We stayed for 3 nights while on the Garden Route. From the minute we entered the premises the staff could not do enough for us. Its a small hotel, but don't let that fool you - you get all the more attention. The rooms are fab and the setting of the hotel on the lagoon is special. They have a fantacsic restaurant with an excellent menu, run by extremey friendly staff. They even washed our car each day without being requested to do so - its a nice touch. We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone but especially couples. We will be back!

We spent 4 nights at The St James as part of a three week holiday to South Africa.
This hotel was faultless. Lovely room, great service, good food. The location on the lagoon is perfect. We had mixed weather, but it did not dampen our spirits. A wonderful place to stay in Knsyna.

This was truly a wonderful experience. The St James is set in superbly manicured gardens on the Knysna lagoon and it is stunning! We stayed for 7 nights and although we had a very mixed bag of weather it didn't spoil our stay. Our room was spectacular and the size of an entire apartment with lovely comfy beds and all the amenities you could wish for. The staff could not have been more lovely. I was, unfortunately unwell, during the stay and they were so helpful and concerned, it was really reassuring. Steven is an excellent manager/host but to be honest we could not fault any of the staff at all. The food is of a very high quality (and plentiful) - we would definitely stay again if we made the trip to SA again.

Despite the unexpectedly poor weather (rain from 24th to 26th December), we had one really sunny day in which to enjoy this superb Hotel.

We managed to get the last two rooms for these dates, even though we booked months ahead. Naturally my husband and I took the suite, whilst our teenage sons were allocated the Garden Room. Price wise, ours was almost twice the cost of their room, and although it felt indulgent to stay in such luxury, the boys were hardly deprived as the Garden Room was spacious and to a very high standard.

The location is what made this place sooo special. The gardens were beautifully kept, and the views accross the lagoon were awesome. We spent very little time actually using the services of the Hotel as we had relatives living nearby, so we were out a lot and ate with them each evening. However, the interactions we had with the staff were always very positive - friendly with attention to detail. The breakfasts were lovely!

We don't often go back to the same place, but if I am lucky enough to get back to Knysna I think we would make an exception on this occassion!
