Stayed in Overmeer for 3 nights in November 2006. It is in a nice location high above the lagoon. Our room had a large balcony (shared with rooms on the same floor next door) with a table and a fantastic view. It is advertised as a 5* but I really couldn't see why. It is 4* quality however. The room was clean, and breakfast was ok. It also has a decent sized pool which we did not use however. The staff were also friendly and very helpful, as is usually the case in South Africa guest houses. It was also good value.

The downsides were that the parking got a bit congested, and the shower and bath were in the bedroom (toilet was separated by a wall and door but within the room). I think as a consequence of this there was a slight mouldy smell in the room, but not enough to spoil your enjoyment.

Knysna is very beautiful and a great location for exploring part of the garden route. A South African friend recommended I stay there rather than in Plettenburg Bay (my original choice), and this is some advice I would definitely pass on
