Location: The Lofts is a boutique hotel in a refurbished boatshed, overlooking Knysna lagoon. It is on Thesen Island in the middle of the lagoon, and connected by a roadbridge to the mainland. It is pertinently just under a mile away from the main waterfront area of Knysna. Thesen Island itself is a new tourist and residential development. As such, it is very quiet, clean, and also devoid of life! There are some restaurants and shops, but I don't recommend spending much time here (head out to the waterfront or to other towns). A friend and I spent one night here.
Service: The hotel has free parking adjacent to it. Otherwise we encountered one member of staff during our one-night stay - the receptionist who was there until 7:30pm. Then we make our own way in with a hotel key. She tried to be helpful, but was not that useful for finding out about local amenities. The room was immaculate upon entering. The receptionist also gives a 50R voucher per person for breakfast next-door at Ile de Pain, a nice little bakery/cafe to start the day in.
Room: The standard 'luxury loft' room we had was beautifully furnished with modern paintings, modern appliances and very comfortable twin beds. It had a separate bathroom (bath/shower) and a large balcony with sun-loungers. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer TimmyT means by 'everything but the toilet' was in one room, but presumably he was in a honeymoon suite?
Overall, it is definitely a great place to stay, although the surroundings may get boring after a few hours!
