Had a one night stay here in February - although i wish it had been a week! The rooms are very luxurious and large - our room actually had four seperate areas! The hotel itself does not have a restaurant but breakfast is served in a lovely cafe just around the corner. For dinner we went to a restaurant recommneded by the hotel called Lush which was about a five minute walk away - this was expensive for South Africa (ZAR600 for two people) but very inexpensive when you come from Dublin (€60!!) and the food was absolutely immaculate. I would heartily recommend The Lofts if you are in Knysna and don't forget the dinner in Lush!

The Lofts is on a Island metres from the town centre in an old boat shed sharing the property with some shops and offices.
We arrived late and the weather wasn't great the 1 night we stayed but the room was stylish and the 'hotel' had amazing communal areas. Breakfast is next door in a cafe which you get R50 each for (not enough for a juice, coffee and food though!). Would have liked to stay another night (but it wasn't that cheap)

We stayed in Loft 1b, Classical Honeymoon Loft. This room was absolutely fabulous, it was large, well equiped, had a Lagoon View and a balcony to two sides. What really let it down was the fact that this particular room had no separate shower, only a hand held shower head in the bath. Hence, every time we showered the bathroom was flooded! This is the only reason we have rated this hotel as less than excellent.
Breakfasts are mainly taken at Ile de Pain, just a few yards away, an excellent French cafe that serve delicous cooked breakfasts, cakes and lunches. On Modays Ile de Pain is closed so breakfast is taken at Marios on the Quays. This is a 15 minute walk away. Again, the breakfasts are excellant (as are the Pizzas later in the day).
If you are staying here on Saturday book a table for dinner before you get there as nearly everywhere was fully booked during our visit.

Visited in March 2006. The Lofts is a former boatshed turned beautifully into boutique accommodation and shops. We stayed in a standard Loft room which was beautifully furnished in Moulin Rouge theme. Each room also has an equally beautiful balcony with 2 sun loungers from where we enjoyed views of the lagoon.

The Lofts are located centrally in Knysna on Thesen Island on the lagoon. Thesen Island presently has much development work on-going, however this has little impact on the Lofts. There are a number of restaurants within the development offering various cuisine and you can walk to the main harbour in about 7mins). As the development work completes this means increasing facilities (shops, restaurants etc) in the immediate area of the Lofts.
