“Epitome of a gorgeous cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Our tour group was blown away by the charm and beauty of this complex, we were a small group of 19 and all housed in the lovely thatched cottages, with all the comforts of home, in fact you could live in one of these. We arrived following the terrible storms in Cape Town and under the incessant rain of the aftermath, such a delight to find a wood burning stove properly laid with firelighters and a laminated instruction sheet on how to use the stove.Misty Mountain take note. ( see my review of it if you think I wear rose tinted spectacles) We quickly had a blazing fire going and a cosy atmosphere. Set dinner in the restaurant was excellent both in quality and quantity, with attentive and efficient service. Next day I delivered a pile of laundry to reception having forgatte in my haste to get the tour bus to complete the form in the wardrobe, no problem, for less than twelve pounds I got a pile of laundry done in the same day. Sitting by the pool in the lovely garden was a delight and the atmosphere in the bar great. This hotel was a dream destination I would return in a heartbeat especially as the town and lagoon are lovely too.

We stopped of for one night on our garden route adventure. The room was ok. It had a thatched roof(which smells pretty bad!) and outdated bathroom. Furniture could do with a sanding and painting. It was clean but cold the night we stayed. We slept with both radiators on and a towel to the door as there was quite a gap. I think it's a tour bus company kind of place. We were on honeymoon and just expected a better standard. The pool did not look clean.

The evening meal was nice and the wine was a local wine. The place was packed with a lot of ppl from a couple of tours. Hard to hear yourself think! It's great from them to have the tours. But not ideal for couples or honeymooners.

Two nights only and a late booking. But a good choice. Around 70 individual units located in a courtyard format. Good central facilities, including bar and restaurant. Unit was spacious and well laid out, if not a little spartan (we were in the cheaper standard garden units). The shower was excellent. No mini-safe (only in executive units). Unit keep very clean. Short walk from car park to room - but helpful porters on hand, who also washed car on day of departure (small voluntary contribution).
Restaurant very good with good quality meal options, and good choice of beers and wine. Only downside was the periodic noise from coach groups finding time for conversation between food courses.
Reception staff helpful - with positive advice. Get a google map of the property location before you arrive. It is not difficult - but doing that will save you time.
On balance, after viewing Knysna town options, we thought we had made a lucky choice which suited us well.

We were touring SA and had reserved 2 nights at Knysna Hollow. The reception was excellent,
the room very big and comfortable, and the food and service very good. Would certainly recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Room Tip: Room facing swimming pool -sunny and nice view.

This hotel has a central facility, with the rooms either separate bungalows or attached rooms that are in individual buildings. All face a central courtyard with nice landscape, pool, etc. The buildings are all thatched, with the thatching showing on the ceiling as well. Heat is by fireplace or wood burning stove, with the fuel provided. In October (spring) the heat was needed. The hotel is not within walking distance of anything, but a short ride takes one into Knysya lagoon and the featherbed reserve which are spectacular. The food was good, the wine selection of by-the-glass wines less than optimal. In the morning, the location near the road negates the need for an alarm clock since cars start roaring by fairly early. There are some kind of birds which have a very loud call as they fly by at dawn, and the thatched roofs do not keep out much sound. It was a pleasant experience overall, nice place and we would visit again if the occasion comes up. Note that the bathrooms are very large and well appointed, and they are also clean. The rooms are also quite large.

Room Tip: Try to get as far away from the road as possible.

Thank you very much for the detailed review of your recent stay with us at Knysna Hollow and we are very pleased to hear that overall you enjoyed your time with us. The name of the birds to which you refer is Hadeda Ibis and they do tend to be active in the early morning - a very distinctive-looking bird with a long beak and a loud call which plays a vital role in the Knysa eco-system through the control of large insects which it burrows from the ground. We hope that we may be able to welcome you back to the Garden Route at some stage in the future. With warm regards from Clive and the Knysna Hollow team.

We stayed three nights at the Knysna Hollow and couldn't fault the room or service at all. We were in one of the bungalow rooms and it was huge. We really liked the village feel of the hotel. It was quite a distance from Knysna waterfront which was a shame. The food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Featherbed Nature tour with the buffet lunch - really good value for money and fantastic views.

We were on a tour of South Africa and were booked in to stay at the Knysna Hollow for 2 nights, however on the day we arrived in Knysna, prior to booking in to the hotel, my friend fell and broke her hip. We were taken to the local private hospital where she had to have an emergency hip replacement operation. As a result of this our 2 day stay at the Knysna Hollow turned into 18 days and I do believe we were very lucky to be able to stay at this hotel.

The staff at the hotel were exceptional - they looked after both of us in our hour of need and provided a service above and beyond the call of duty which included obtaining a wheel chair, advising us on a wide range of issues and generally being there and supporting us through a very difficult time.

The hotel is a lovely place and well worthy of a longer stay than the usual 1 or 2 night stays that most people take on their tour of South Africa. The grounds are beautiful with a number of pools to choose from to relax and soak up the sun and some surprising birdlife. However the reception cat Charlie is a real delight. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms large with good facilities. The restaurant provides a plentiful breakfast and an excellent evening menue - The Springbok Parcels are fab!

We are hoping to return for a further visit once the hip has fully recovered. Knysna Hollow Thank you very much for all your help and support.
