“A very comfortable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stayed in this hotel for a week during our December holidays.

To summarize the pros and cons of the hotel:

Pros
-great location, close to all the amenities and restaurants
-rooms are modern and spacious, suite style
- great food from restaurant, with room service option
- friendly staff
- comfy beds

Cons
- no pool, no free wifi
- small bathroom
- limited tv channels
- not much crockery or cutlery
- rooms not made up early in the day
- rooms get hot at night if you don't sleep with aircon

Overall, great option for a holiday town getaway, probably won't find much better in knysna.

Room Tip: Ask for waterfront rooms as these have a slightly better view

The Rex, is a very well done hotel the interiors are like entering a wonderful home along with the good feelings which come of a home of warmth , cleanness , comfort , warmth etc.. The rooms we stayed in was an apartment type 1 bhk luxry sweet it had its own mini kitchen which was fully equipped along with cooking utensils and dinning crockery along with fridge , microwave , toaster etc.. We had a great stay as i had a chance to cook breakfast for my wife the 3 nights we stayed there. It is almost like a home away from home. The waterfront 2-3 min walking distance along with all the restaurants and the super market 4-6 min walking distance. they also have 2 bicycle for guest who want to ride them and go to places was a nice idea in my opinion.

The negative of the hotel : charge for wifii , no swimming pool , and no chairs and table in the balcony ( the balcony was very nice so they should put the same in all of them ) however we did ask for one and they arranged one for us so was great.

We arrived a little bit early and were give the "room", it was a 2 bedroom appartment with 2 bathrooms, living etc. Clean and very modern and stylish. Unfortunately no free internet.Friendly and helpful staff

Breakfast rich and good choice, parking safe, easy walk to the waterfront.
Not much to see though, a few restaurants and thats it.

We stayed here for 2 nights in November. Our room was huge, immaculate and stylish. The staff were very pleasant too and the parking is really convenient. Our only issue regarding our stay was the waterfront itself. We chose this hotel because of its proximity to this supposed 'lively' area. We really couldn't see the attraction. We found it very tacky and lacking atmosphere. Hotel was the saving grace of our stay.

We stayed here for two nights in November 2012. We arrived early in the morning having had an early flight to George from Johannesburg. We decided to pop in to the hotel on the offchance we could check in early and got such a friendly welcome. We were told that they would have a room ready for us within the hour which was fantastic.

When we saw the room, we couldn't quite believe it. Instead of just a room, we had a whole apartment which was very spacious as well as a balcony! The decor was really modern and it was just so clean and very comfortable. We wanted to stay more than just two nights!

The location in Knysna is fantastic - within walking distance of the waterfront, Thesen Island and the main shopping streets. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance as well and we felt very safe here in the evenings.

There was also plenty of free parking in the secure carpark below the hotel. Would thoroughly recommend and such good value as well!

This is the third visit to The Rex hotel for me, I last stayed here over two tears ago, and although things have changed a little, it is still a lovely friendly hotel. This time I went with two other friends, and as soon as we had parked our car in the car park downstairs, the staff were there to help us with our bags. Checkin was smooth and the staff are very nice. The rooms, I had a king studio, and my friends had a twin one bedded apartment, were both very clean, well equipped and comfortable, for the price this hotel is amazing, we paid £40 per night for each room, including breakfast, with expedia. absolutely amazing. The hotel is a short walk to the waterfront, with loads of shops and restaurants. Breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a comfortable and friendly night in Knysna.

We booked this hotel as pasrt of a package deal, and it surpassed my expectations. Reception was awaiting our arrival and had our check in documents ready as soon as we got there. However the room was not available as we arrived 4 hours prior to check in, but they kept our luggage for us whilst we went of for an early lunch at the Quays. The room was simply stunning, perfect for a romantic weekend away. It had quite a contemporary and homely feel to it. The corridors were equally attractive as the room itself. I would definitely book here again.
