In one of the brief notes about the history of Knysna it is written that the woodcutters that lived in the forest found it very difficult to leave. So it was with us when our time to leave came. Our cottage was beautifully put together and very comfortable with everthing that we needed. We came close to saying "what the heck" and staying another few days. We were especially impressed by the attention to detail. The carbon footprint is very small. Power is largely solar. There is a container for food scraps for the worms. Water literally comes from the sky. It is rain water! Just loved that outside shower - back to nature! Good linen and great pillows. All the important stuff - sorted. We will go back. Our young son - he is 8 - insists.

Room Tip: Difficult to rate one cottage above another. They are cunningly placed so that they do not crowd 0r...

We recently stayed at Forest Edge, and it has truly been an inspiring, peaceful and eco-concious experience, that we are so grateful for. From the moment we made the query, to our checkout, we were treated with super friendliness and efficiency. We stayed in "Fairy Den", the last cottage. It was well appointed, with extra touches like DVD's, and a wealth of information that Ronel has put together to enhance your stay. The outdoor shower, hammock, the meditation area and location close to the mystical forest all make "Forest Edge" a gem!The ambience was simply magical... Ronel so kindly took us around her organic vegetable garden, and shared some of her delicious home grown veggies with us. She also answered all of our questions regarding the farms' ecological ethos. We left with a greater eco-conciousness, that we are putting into practice. Our child has autism, and the pics on the website helped to prepare him for our stay. Ronel was patient and kind to him, and allocated "Fairy Den", so we could have more privacy. He really enjoyed being ouside, playing with the cat, feeding and brushing the donkeys, and walking around, and he too benefitted from the calm and serenity of the area. He loved it, and that makes our decision to return an easy and positive one.
We look forward to returning to Forest Edge as a family, and will recommend a stay here to experience the magic of Forest Edge.

Room Tip: The location to the forest walks and cycling routes, makes this a wonderful base!

We have just spent 10 days at Forest Edge, what a restful holiday. The cottage was well equiped with everything a family could possibly require. Ronel is a gracious hostess who knows the area well. The forest is right there is for walks but if relaxation with a good book is required, the hammock comes highly recommended. The children loved feeding Hansel and Gretel the donkeys as well as riding their bikes up and down the road. The dvd's filled a welcome moment when it was too cold and wet to go outside. I am missing the frogs croaking at night and serenading while you shower outside !! We look forward to returning to Forest Edge for a third visit :-)

We have been to Forest Edge before and will go back again. You don't need to take anything along - the beautiful cottages are very well equipped - the outside shower, hammock, great books, dvd's and fireplace makes it even more special. The forest walks are great, close-by and easy to arrange. If you are looking for peace and QUIET in beautiful surroundings, this is the place to go. The service is friendly and very helpful. Ronel and her team are doing a great job. Keep it up!

Peace, tranquility and luxury - all in one. We fell in love with the quaint house while browsing the internet for a place to stay during the Oyster festival. Froggy pond with it's sounds under a star filled sky is an amazing experience. We loved every single moment of our stay!

What a wonderful place to get away from hectic city life! We stayed for 3 days and that was not nearly long enough to do everything that we wanted to. Knysna and surrounding area have so much to offer! Our cottage was truly delightful. It contained everything we needed for a comfortable stay down to small detail (like selection of books and DVDs and electric blanket on the bed for cold nights). Everything was spotlessly clean! We particularly enjoyed fire place in the living room, hammock on the veranda and refreshing outdoor shower. The location is beautiful and filled with sounds of wild forest. Ronel is an excellent hostess and she made us feel at home. We could not recommend it enough!

We stayed at FE recently and was blown away by the setting, tranquility and service. I can highly recommend staying there if you want peace, adores silence and want to be close to beautiful surrounds and a real forest experience. Not too far from Knysna town in case you need to pop down for supplies. So much to do in the area. Will definitely be back.
