“Best getaway spot we have ever been to, and lovely honeymoon experience - Wonderful host, great service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

We can recommend this spot for anyone, great value, beautiful surroundings, cottages stunning and very well equipped. This forest getaway beats the beach front 100 times over.
We loved it!

Ronel is so friendly and caring, she made us feel welcome after a long journey, the bookings went smoothly and our lovely cottage was ready for us.The hammock is a nice touch and all four of us fought over it a little. My daughter and her husband from the U.K where impressed with the facilities, the quiet, even though there are people there, you dont feel overwhelmed. The outside shower is a winner, after we got over the fact that everyone could see us and found nobody could.I loved the new garden and once it grows it will be real eyecandy. The walk to the waterfall is beautiful, just wished we had more time to spend there. Its close to knysna, yet out of the way,so we were able to just relax, braai, read and visit Hansel & Gretel the cute donkeys.Even watched a movie as there is such a big choice and seems to consider everyones taste including the children. We will definitely return to regenerate our batteries, there was nothing we did not like.Well done Ronel you deserve your awards and thank you.Rob &Lyn Rosen

We loved our stay at Forest Edge. Ronel is the perfect hostess. If you follow her directions, it's very easy to find. Forest Edge also offers discount vouchers when you support the local restaurants and markets. We enjoyed the honeymoon spoils too! The rooms were serviced everyday and fresh flowers would await you on your return. It is very close to the reserve for all kinds of hiking trails.

From the onset I was impressed. Online booking service was easy and efficient, directions was spot on to get there, check in was painless.
The cottages are just amazing. Comfortable furniture and the open air shower was a real hit. It is close enough to Knysna (25 minutes drive) to enjoy what Knysna has to offer, but tucked away in the forest for the ulitmate retreat. Close to a wide variety of outdoor activities (mountain biking routes, hiking trails, horse riding, open water swimming in Buffels Bay to name a few), but very suited for a romantic getaway if you don't feel like leaving the cottage at all.
Everything is done in an evironmentally friendly and sustainable way without the feeling of being restricted

Self-catering accommodation with little extras that made it so special. The surrounding indigenous forest makes this place a must to experience. The hostess goes the extra mile to help - also arranged our permits for us for one of our forest walks. The interior is more than adequate with just enough detail and no clutter - which can be a problem with younger kids. We stayed 3 nights with our sons of 2 and 5. They loved every minute! Played outside and there is a lot of information available about conservation and saving water - which the 5-year old found very interesting. The hammock on the porch that looks onto the forest, as well as the shower outside (with hot water) are also recommended. Easy access from Forest Edge to wonderful forest walks - really idyllic! Picnic sites nearby next to a stream where children play in the water, and waterholes in the forest where swimming is allowed makes this accommodation even more perfect. We'll definitely return. Our kids rate Forest Edge better than a trip to the sea...and that counts for something, I must say! Clean, quiet, beautiful! 3 days not enough!

I just fell in love with Forest Edge, the cosy and adorable woodcutter cottages add to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere , forming such a pretty picture right next to the forest. Forest Edge is so well situated, just a few minutes drive from a couple of beautiful long stretched sandy beaches you can choose from, lagoons and the scenic garden route drive. I loved the privacy couples, or families could enjoy, making you feel that this part of nature belonged to you. The trails are enjoyable, whether you choose to walk or take a bike, there are even fishing spots at the river, if you do not wish to take a drive to the beach. Having an evening meal outdoors and listening to the sounds of the night was most enjoyable, as well as a quick night out to town. The cottages are well equipped, clean and safe. Once you’ve been to Forest Edge, it really makes adjusting back in city life hard to do ….! (Kathleen Munn)

This was our second trip and we definitely made the right decision to return. The accomodation is spotless and very cosy. Ronel has thought of everything for the traveller from European plug adapters to a good selection of light reading and DVD's. Forest Edge is centrally placed to visit a multitude of wonderful places whether it is tame elephants, golden beaches or hikes through the fabulous forest that surrounds the cottages. We still love the donkeys and loved meeting Roxy and will definitely be back again on our next trip to SA.
