We had a great time at Portland Manor. If you like stately old houses full with antiques, and being time-warped to former times, you'll love it. The creeking floors are a part of all that. Nature lovers will like it. The bathwater (we had one of these delightful old bath tubes on little feet) has a bit of a colour. Ask your host to explain: the colour comes from minerals in the rocks as it is purified dam water. Its actually better than the community water (it gets tested every 3 months), and to loose the colour it would take a lot more chemicals. Why would you, if its perfect natural water?
Bring your flexibel mindset, chat with your hostess Debbie (she has the funniest stories), sip your red wine at the open fire, relax (listen to music or read a book) and you'll have a wonderful experience. If you are more into modern new buildings with 5 star hotel comfort and 24/7 roomservice, this might not be your thing. It's more B&B style, only Debbie cooked us the best 3 course meal we had in 7 weeks South Africa! (Taking into account my partners diabetes, which we had let them know in advance, and my longing for some veggies.)
