We stayed in room 1 which had two balconies each overlooking the sea-the whole experience at Abalone is so relaxing, the rooms are first class and the staff most helpful. In our view its THE place to stay in Hermanus

Very nice guest house. Only drawback is that it really is not easy walking distance to town, particularly in the evening. One could take a walk to town during the day along the cliff path, but this is not viable to go to dinner and then return after dark. With that said, the location is right on the cliff path with wonderful views, so if you have a car and don't mind driving into town for dinner the location is good during the day. The breakfast was very good and served out on the patio overlooking the water. I took both late evening and early morning walks along the path, which were both lovely. There are lots of people walking, running, etc. along the path. The room was clean and well appointed. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly in providing information about restaurants. WiFi was okay, but not great and essentially unusable in our room.

Room Tip: Our room was up a series of steps, which was totally fine with us. However, if one is disabled, you...

Fantastic stay! Dijana and her ladies go the extra mile. Nothing to small for them - booking of restaurants, advice about what to do in the area. The pool is fantastic!!!! Close to the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, right on the sea and a few minutes from town center. Bliss! Had chocolates in our room on arrival and drinks at the pool! I do not enjoy breakfast at B&B's so usually head into town for a brunch.

Room Tip: Have stayed here a few times - all the rooms are great!

We stayed over at Abolone in January 2013 in one of the garden rooms on the first night. This place is absolutely stunning aad exceeded all of my expectations. Everyone is so warm and friendly and the service was first class. We arrived late so Dihana had to wait for us. she was friendly and showed us around, gave us the keys to the main house and we could even use the kitchen and the honesty bar. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated we felt right at home. Breakfast was stunniong , the view is absolutely unbeatable. We decided to stay at Abalone for a second night on our return from our garden route trip and got upgraded to a sea facing room. I was just so impressed with the service , the location and the hospitality of everyone. Great job Abalone we will definitely visit again soon.

Beautiful guest house and facilties, especially the pool! Staff are very friendly & approachable. I loved that they have all the menus for local restaurants together in one book, along with reviews written by guests during their stay, we found it most helpful!

Located outside of the town so taxi or driving is recommended.

Would definitely recommend this to friends and fellow travellers!

The Abalone is a beautiful base for this beautiful town. We arrived early evening but the welcome was warm and the complimentary glass of white wine, wonderfully chilled. The whole place was very tastfully decorated and the communal lounge/ seating area very relaxing yet light and airy. The gym, though small was very well equipped with what seemed to be brand new equipment. In fact we were surprised by the amount of facilities that were at our disposal, especially as we got the name wrong and thought we were staying at the "Abalone Guest House" when we booked from the UK! This is definitely more than your average guest house. The only negative we had was that we had booked a "family room" through our travel agent in the UK as we had our 10 year old daughter with us. However when we arrived the room did not include a bed for her and although they quickly arranged for a single mattress to be put on the floor infront of one of the french doors this wasn't what we had expected and the mattress was very "firm".
We didn't use the "Business Centre", "Sauna" or "Beauty Room" but the pool was nice. Breakfast was also very good and having it on the terrace made it even better. All the staff were helpful and friendly and when we left on Christmas Eve the recomendation to stop at the Penguine Sanctuary at Betty's Bay was a great call. Thank you all.
