“Massive portions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

Really nice atmosphere and we all had typical Italian pasta dishes. Everything was served so hot you could hardly eat it to start. I'm a big eater but the portions were absolutely huge.
Staff very accomodating - we originally sat outside but were moved inside when the smokers joined us!

“The local for locals.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2011

What you see is what you get. We love going to Molteno's as it's within walking distance from our house in the village of Onrus. A good fillet on a Friday evening when you're not in the mood for cooking. This is not fine dining by a long shot but, it's a good evening out with friends when you just want to unwind and have a good chat and laugh with the locals. The grilled prawn starter is very nice and as a rule the prawn main course always looks good. Great salad Nicoise, good lamb shanks, vegetarian pastas good as an alternative. The desserts are limited and really quite disappointing, SADLY. The wine list is ok, we drink our cellar special so not too perturbed. The pub is always lively and it's hard to find a seat at times as locals love their drinking hole, and quite rightly so. Gordon the owner and chef is a great guy and he'll make you feel like a local in no time. The waitresses are part of the furniture and know the menu off pat.

“Beautiful, cozy and home cooked!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2010

Read the reviews and finally found the restaurant. A little tricky in the dark! I had chicken livers and lamb, very good. Service was great, felt so welcomed, especially since I was travelling alone. Good advice, nice chat. Definitely would recommend you try it out.

“We ate in many restaurants in the eastern cape but always came back to Moltenos.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2009

I've been to South Africa several times now and travelled around, eating in many different restaurants. For me, without a doubt Moltenos is the best. I've tried nearly everything on the menu at various stages and each meal if full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I would definately reccommend the Gordon Bleu, Steak with mushroom sauce (the best version I've ever tried), the lamb, any pizza as they are always yummy whatever topping you put on, the prawns and any of the line fish as it's always fresh and devine. The Dom Pedros are also the perfect end to any meal if you can fit anything else in. Gordon the chef and the rest of the staff are really lovely people and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Whenever we travel through Onrus this is the one place we make sure we stop off, more than once.
