“Absolutely stunning view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

The best thing about our stay in this tastefully decorated guesthouse was waking up to the magnificent view of the ocean and breaking waves just outside our window. That, and the delightful breakfast enjoying the same view, was what made our stay here special. What we felt more uneasy about, was its location within a fenced and guarded compound on the outskirts of Hermanus. It felt like we were in our own little luxurious bubble isolated from "real life", and that is normally not what we look for when we go traveling.

We've spent 2 nights at the guesthouse and have enjoyed it so much. Everything was perfect Personel, Location, Room, View, Breakfast and all the services. Also the Tips for Restaurants and leisure activities were really good. I would recommend this hotel anytime! And since it is so close to the ocean we even had the luck of seeing whales in the bay right from our breakfast table!

We stayed here whilst on Honeymoon and it was simply amazing! Janina was a perfect host and her attention for detail ensured we had a perfect stay! I could go on and on but this place does live up to all expectations and more!
Perfect views, Perfect hosts, Perfect service, Just what we needed for our honeymoon.

Room Tip: Sea Room has the perfect view although the others we saw are nice in their own way.

We stayed at the Whale View Guest House on our first night in South Africa and couldn't have picked a better place. We had the Sea View room which was wonderful and had the crashing waves right outside our bedroom window. Janina our host was great and recommended a lovely restuarant (Rock Harbour) and even gave us hints and tips on the best places to see the whales. A great place and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting.

Room Tip: Get the Sea View room - best one and has under floor heating too!

Whale View is just out of the main town at the Beach Club, don't be put off by the drive there which is through what looks like a derelict building site, believe me it is worth it!
We were greeted by Janina offering us a glass of chilled white wine, which was most welcome after our drive from Cape Town through torrential rain. She also invited us to avail ourselves of whatever refreshments we liked from the fridge and kitchen free of charge (including wine, beer, soft drinks as well as the usual tea, coffee and hot choclate etc), normally something I would not expect of a guest house, but Whale View is definitely a cut above the average.
The Guest House is a lovely mix of French style old chic, white walls and seaside knick knacks complete with driftwood cupboard door handles.
The view is without doubt the best in Hermanus, we stayed in the Sea Room which has its own private deck perched on the rocks, the main lounge area also has its own deck overlooking the sea.
Life is very laid back, we were told that breakfast would be ready at 08:30 but if it was required at an earlier time it could be arranged, we were there to relax so a later breakfast time than is normal for South Africa was much welcomed.
We met Nico the owner at breakfast, he was engaging and very welcoming giving us directions to his favourite winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley just outside Hermanus. Without his directions we probably would not have ventured as far along the dirt track to Creation but it was well worth it.
Janina had also made reservations for us at two local restaurants, nothing seemed too much trouble for any of the staff.
The only (very) slight negative and it is only slight is that the bathroom in the Sea Room is in need of a bit of TLC, the shower head sprayed water all over the floor which made it quite dangerous stepping out of the shower as it is more of a wet room than "bathroom" I did feed this back before we left so I am sure it will be attended to.
We will very definitely be back!

Room Tip: I had a quick look at a couple of the other rooms, all are beautiful but the Sea Room has by far the...

My wife and I stayed at Whale View Guest House as part of our honeymoon.
We were greeted in the early evening by Janina who was absolutely lovely and very welcoming.
Our check in was brief and easy and Janina poured us a drink whilst we concluded business. As it was our honeymoon there was a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us which we thought was a nice touch.
Janina gave us an information pack with places to eat, things to do etc which was very useful, and had also made a provisional booking at a local restaurant which we also appreciated.
I have seen some previous reviews where the decor and style of the house has been questioned but I have to say we found it very relaxing.
Nico, the owner also stopped by and introduced himself and, like Janina, was very friendly.
The room was clean and spacious and had a patio which had spectacular views of the sea.
We were asked what time we would like breakfast and this was served to a very high standard and in relaxed surroundings.
Janina also gave me use of her office to access emails and internet which was also very much appreciated.
I can not comment on price as the stay was part of an overall booking but I would have no hesitancy in staying at the Whale View again.
In fact the only disapointment was not staying longer than one night.

My husband and I stayed here for a few days as part of our honeymoon in December. Amazing staff, guest house and location. We watched dolphins swimming by as we swipped on wine on the fantastic patio. A fabulous place which is highly recommended. Book the room with the sea view for a special experience - especially in whale season!
