“Great resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I have been to fancourt several times know, and can truly say it is a great resort.
All the facilities are there, great spa, nice restaurants, good rooms, and for a golf everything one can ask for. 3 good courses, with the Links course being absolutely fantastic, and good training facilities.

Thank you for your lovely review, it is great to hear that you always have a wonderful time at Fancourt.

While I agree we are a golfers’ paradise with three originally designed Gary Player golf courses all ranked in the Top 20 in South Africa and the state-of-the-art golf academy, we do also have a full family offering for golfing and non-golfing visitors.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Warmest regards,

Lisa Townend

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We recently had unfortunate experience of staying at the fancourt for a week (from the 22december 2012). This followed our stay at the Pezula in Knysna.

It was a far cry from Knysna, and from what I had expected

It began with our service on arrival as being cold and unaccommodating. The hotel was completely disorganized and we were given entirely different accommodation to what we had booked. We had booked a 2 bedroom suite as we were 2 adults and had 2 children aged 5 and 6. When we arrived we were taken to a one bedroom suite which had the lounge bed open and incorrect childrens names on a letter about the kids club. The room also had a baby cot in it, which took the entire day to be fetched away. In addition to this there was an upstairs room, booked to us.

When I informed reception about the incorrect booking, I was advised that we had two rooms and the children would be fine upstairs (even though the room was completely separate). Obviously this was not acceptable but I was told that nothing could be done as there were no 2 bedroom suites at the hotel (despite your website saying that there are). I was told that I had to contact my booking agent!

Eventually, 2 hours later, I had to cancel by booking with the agent and take the one bedroom suite.

The nightmare continued… The rooms were nothing like your pictures on the website. No flowers or fancies… very 3 star…

The service was pathetic. Daily we would get home to no basic amenities. AT 10 and 11pm I would have to call housekeeping to bring soaps and other basics. This would be followed by apologies, but repeated the following night. Only once did they turn down my childrens bed correctly. Most days it would not even get made. They only got the little chocolate goodie at night (that children so relish about five star) when they asked for them!

The rooms were extremely poorly serviced. We would return from a long lay with no kids beds made, bathrobe lying where we had left them, dirty table(completely unwiped since lunch), bins unemptied and no toiletries or beverages. I complained to the housekeeping manager on 2 occasions… Sadly the service did not improve. We did get a complimentary box of tea and baths strudels on these occasions tho…as tho it was supposed to make up for it.

I even contacted the management, or the person that reception put me thro to because management was too busy (perhaps the pro), half way thro our stay and expressed my dissatisfactions. She listened attentively, apologized and the next day we got flowers picked from the outside bush on our pillows, but my childrens beds were still not made that night and nothing else improved!

Breakfast were appalling. Both restaurants had pathetic service! Apart from a few exceptions, staff were rude and unfriendly. We had requested halaal breakfasts but no arrangements were made at all! Even asking staff about food ingredients was bothersome to some of them.

As I said, by far the worst 5 star experience I have had! Perhaps the wrong time of year, but still, extremely disappointing and definitely not what was expected from allegedly one of the featured hotels in our country.

Room Tip: the hotel does not have 2 bedroom suites even tho they advertise them, or so we were told

We are so disappointed to hear about your stay at Fancourt.

Your experience is not typical of Fancourt as we pride ourselves on our service excellence. We take matters like these very seriously and our General Manager, Brett Castleman, will contact you directly to discuss your stay at Fancourt with you.

Sincerely,

Lisa Townend

We have not visited here in the summer before.
Advice would be to plan your trip in the summer months
Although the complex was very busy with a Professional Golf event the staff were excellent and always attentive
Restaurants were all good but the Manor House, although the premium restaurant was disappointing

Room Tip: The garden suites are the best but all are lovely

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that Henry Whites was a disappointing experience for you as we pride ourselves on our food and service excellence in this venue.

To add to your advice regarding booking your trip in the summer months it is worthwhile to note that the Garden Route is truly an area of astounding beauty and the long summer days make the area a popular tourist destination so I would suggest booking your trip well in advance including golf, tours, spa appointments and restaurant bookings as not only Fancourt but the whole of the Garden Route is busy during this time.

We look forward to welcoming you back next year!

Warmest regards,

Lisa Townend

We arrived from Johannesburg to George in the rain!!! We were greeted by the Guest Service Manager in the rain and was ushered to check in with a glass of champagne. Service was impeccable and although we took a golf package the staff were absolutely understanding and we could swop our golf for dinner or spa. We got settled into our lovely huge suite and when the rain finally stopped, we explored the resort. Large resort with lots to do. Golf the next 2 days were perfect - beautiful courses. My husband did have an accident in the guest room and cut his chin rather badly which needed stitches - nothing to do with the hotel's negligence! The hotel was excellent, sent the car to whisk us off to the MediClinic and picked us up after. The restaurants were good, we didn't manage to try all of them but the Italian and Henry Whites were good solid restaurants. If they can guarantee good weather in Fancourt, it would be a lovely place to golf!!

Thank you for the lovely comments from your stay, it is as always a treat to hear.

I hope your husband has recovered well after his fall. I am sure it was a huge relief for you to know how close we are located to the George MediClinic, we have only had positive feedback from guests who have needed to use their facilities for one reason or another and I am sure will give future travelers who read your review some peace of mind.

Next time you come through to Fancourt, we will try and secure only sunny skies for you!

Take care

This is not my idea of a 5*hotel. This a golf club with rooms. No beautiful lounge / bar area just a club house. If you don't play golf do not come here. Decent pool but nobody coming round to offer drinks. No bar open at pool although there is one. No snacks available at pool area whilst we were there. Jan so I imagine high season.
On the plus side, the Italian (more casual restaurant ) I had one of the best pizzas I have ever had..all staff lovely and our room (very nice suite) was great but wifi needs looking at. If you play golf I am sure there is nothing not to like

We arrived here weary after a a long journey which included a 6 hour delay on our first flight from Heathrow to Cape Town! What awaited us more than made up for it,

Our room was lovely and nicely furnished

We ate in all three restaurants in the complex and were not disappointed.
Morning Glory was good and the service was excellent. However their salad garnishes could be a bit more adventurous. Crayfish night was great value.
La Cantina was good for dinner. Breakfast was also taken in here - only one complaint the breakfast staff did not seem as attentive as other waiting staff.
Henry Whites was lovely and the staff and surroundings made it a special night out.
Golf courses were very good and in immaculate condition.
Spa and hairdressers both provided excellent service and in both cases the staff were very good and very friendly.

Generally the staff went out of their way to make our stay a most enjoyable experience

This was a 'wow' factor from start to finnish. Superb room with excellent bathroom. Golf courses could not be faulted. Stunning views wherever you went. Restaurants were a little disappointing food adequate. However a major negative was the service in the club room. 2 days running we ordered lunch and on both occasions we waited nearly an hour before cancelling and going to the halfway house for immediate service. The general manager was aware of the situation and would look into it. Checking out we had a problem with a lost golf voucher in the end they said they would sort it with the issuing company. We stayed for 3 nights and wished it was 3 weeks.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, we greatly appreciate the feedback.

At Fancourt we pride ourselves on our service excellence and our General Manager was disappointed to hear about the service you received in the club bar during your stay. Together with the Food and Beverage Manager they have taken corrective action and next time you visit we look forward to exceeding your expectations with our club bar service.
